Hairballs on our bed !

So cat mum & dad's advice needed ( and we all know keeping cat off the bed is not the answer )
Our cat is very partial to throwing up a hairball a couple of times a week.
All dealt without any fuss, except her favoured place is now on our bed ( yuk )
but again not nice but not a disaster if we hear her/ at home when it happens so can whip off the duvet cover and wash.
If we are not so lucky and it's soaked through to the duvet and left staining - any suggestions ?

I'm washing a duvet cover for the 2nd time in a few days and have spot washed / soaked the area but don't want to keep doing so.
Solution was it buy a waterproof duvet cover but looking in Dunelm ( don't stock)
or Amazon where the reviews are most are like sleeping under a crisp packet !
Any ideas for a good waterproof one if you have the same problem or perhaps an incontinent elderly relative ?
Immediate solution is to load bed with fleece throws in meantime !

Keep your bedroom door shut and cat off bed…

RuthTopp · 15/04/2023 16:57

@DrNo007 Impossible - she would scratch the carpet until it was bald.

We bought a couple thick quilted coverlet type blankets and keep one spread over our bed at all times. If we have a cat mess we can just pick it up and then pop the coverlet in the wash and lay the spare.

Waterproof backed blanket? Like a big picnic blanket over the bed every day. You’d o E to use and one to wash.

I just wait until the next time its washed to be honest.

Otherwise its constant. Its different if its actual sick but often its just phlegm.

Try grooming her to reduce the hair available to swallow?

Theraffarian · 15/04/2023 20:45

Triple attack needed , more frequent grooming to reduce the cat swallowing so much fur . A paste like this Hair ball paste which helps the hairball pass through . Also a waterproof backed picnic rug type throw to put over the bed , or a thick blanket depending on what you will find easiest to wash , which will just need to be removed when you go to bed .

We changed her food and the furballs have reduced considerably. We'd also have no carpet or door frame left if we shut her out either.

Obviously grooming is the answer. I did long haired moggy girl earlier with a zoom groom and a furminator. Then I hand fed her half a slice of sandwich ham as compensation.

RuthTopp · 17/04/2023 16:48

Yes we do groom her twice a week but perhaps we need to do more. Her treats are hairball ones , we do give her the paste daily .
