What would it cost to own four cats?

Im getting divorced after a very long marriage.

Ive had cats in the past, but my last boy died 2020.

Ive always wanted to have at least 4 cats, now I can.

Ideally they would be rescue cats, possibly the much older cats that no one else wants. I realise 4 cats getting on is not a given and I would work with the rescue on this.

But I know vet bills and insurance have gone up drastically. Can anyone give me ball park figures on this, and perhaps cost of special diets. Or would rescue charities let me do long term fostering?

I am fully expecting to become a cat lady stereotype.

Our cats

£12.50 each pm pet insurance, older one has 20% vet bill copay

£12.50 each pm for vets wellness plan (flea and worm meds, annual vaccinations and 2 vet check ups a year, older one gets once a year blood work check as well)

Litter £20 pm combined

Food £80 pm combined

Up front cost of £100 for cat rescue adoption fee each, one was spayed and microchipped the other had to be castrated (£90) vaccinated and microchipped (£100)

Two pet carriers £25 each

Couple hundred quid on cat scratching posts/tunnels/toys/beds

Be aware pet insurance often has £100 min cost before you get them involved so our vet charges £40 ish an appointment and if you need a prescription it means it's never enough to actually claim on insurance

Also dental work, behaviour work isn't included in pet insurance

Our vet gives dental discount on their pet plan

Also I don't know what a cattery cost but twice a day visit from a cat sitter is £26 per day for me, so add that onto holidays, they charge more for more cats too obviously

Have two cats and insurance is just over 50 pounds a month with Petplan. This is the insurance which covers same things cropping up again. One eye issue last year cost nearly 1000 and the year before a heart murmur cost just over 1000. Food cost is high as I don't feed them cheap stuff, indoor cats so litter costs too and a 2 week holiday away is about 350 at the cattery. Worth every penny though.
