Cats and new carpet

Hello everybody, I'm hoping somebody has a few tips to help me out here.
Next week I'm finally getting my carpets redone. They're now 11 years old and in rubbish condition. My concern is my two cats (4years old) I've had bare concrete in the hall for most of the time they lived here because they decided that this was their "spot" to wee, despite there being a clean litter tray there. They haven't done this in ages but I'm concerned that a lovely, fluffy new carpet might be too enticing for them.
Also, I caught one weeing on our bathroom fluffy rug the other day for no particular reason.
They currently have 3 litter trays which are kept very clean plus access to outside.
(I'm considering getting a couple more in case this helps)
Is there anything I can do to discourage them from weeing on the carpets?
They also scratch the carpets up if a door is closed on them so ay tips to stop that would be great.
Thank you!

Are you using a litter that’s rough on paws? Ultra clumping is best.

No idea how to stop scratching though.

I have scratch posts right next to our sofa. Our overlord scratches that rather than the sofa. It's something about them wanting to scent mark places where you hang out.

What litter are you using and are you cleaning it up properly when they do have an accident?

DCat does the same thing with closed doors and is wrecking the carpet in places. Something I was told years ago with previous cars is that they don’t like foil so I currently have silver foil taped to the carpet where he normally rips it up to get in. So far it’s working brilliantly though it’s not something I want there forever.

They use Cat San and I clean it as soon as they use it as the smell really bothers me. They do use the litter trays ok to be fair, it's more that they don't see anything wrong with a quick puddle on the carpet if they're not right by it. At the moment it isn't a massive issue, just the one wee on the bathroom mat recently. I'm just worried that as the new carpet is lovely and soft/fluffy they'll gravitate towards it.
I've ordered a preventer spray, several new litter trays and a special spray for cleaning cat wee effectively so the smell doesn't tempt them back.
Does anybody have any other good products that they use?

I might try the foil thing, thanks!!

Try ultra clumping litter, it’s very soft on paws and contains the smell.

When they wee on soft surfaces it’s because they want something softer than cat litter to wee on.

Our Bengal was very fussy and had to use wood chip litter in the cattery. He literally threw a shit fit and flicked his poo out of his tray in protest. Despite this the cattery owners went on to buy their own bengals which just shows you can’t help some people.

😆😆😆 sounds like a brilliant cat though!!
Right I'm going to experiment, the new litter trays will get the ultra clumping treatment. If they vote with their feet then I'll use it everywhere.
I'm wary of making a big change all at once because my two are generally super fussy and protest vigorously (and messily) at any changes.
