Cat dandruff - Should I be worried?

Dcat, who we've had fir a couple of months, seems to be shedding more hair than usual and getting a fair bit dandruff too.

I've been brushing her a bit more regularly this week, but is there anything else I need to do?

She had her spot cream yesterday as I thought it was due, and I'm fairly confident it's not fleas as she doesn't seem excessively scratchy.

I've read that putting salmon oil with her food helps, has anyone tried this and is it easily available?

TIA

Cats naturally shed more in Spring, getting rid of their winter coat.

One of my cats get dandruffy on his back sometimes, it's noticeable because he's a dark colour. I find regular brushing is all that's needed, it distributes the natural oils through the coat.

It can be a sign of stress as well. Anything changed in her life?

Thanks both for replies.

@Want2beme , apart from change of environment which has already been 2 months and she's pretty settled here.

The only source of stress I can think of that was recent, was the fight she had the other night with a cat intruder. I didn't see it but I was woken up by the sharp, unmistakable cat shriek that you hear from fight.

Maybe give the vet or vet nurse a call and run it by them? One of my cats developed this when older and it turned out it was early kidney failure. She was medicated and lived many more happy healthy years after that

A long haired cat I used to have hated brushing as her fur was dry - it was always a bit of a row to groom her. She used to get dandruff then and at other times she was stressed, such as being in the car etc. The vet gave her Evening Primrose Oil and within a week or so all was good and she would actually come up a wait for me to open the bottle and put the drops in her mouth!!!!!! Take kitty to the vets though as this treatment may not be suitable for your cat - just really to let you know there are some simple treatments out there and it is not always a serious problem

xsquared the dandruff can come on pretty quickly when feeling stressed. I've seen it come on in my cats, just between the journey from home to the vets.

I've heard salmon oil is good for their coats too, and some cats love it (mine didn't, but they are contrary beasts at the best of times).

Hmm, given that dcat is only 5, I'd be surprised if it was sone age related medical condition.

I have given her a good brush and will keep an eye on anything else unusual. Having had a google, her fur looks nothing like the images for serious conditions and is only visible when you are looking closely and petting her. She is shedding quite a bit of fur though, so I guess it is seasonal.

She is due her vaccinations in just over a month's time, but if it gets any worse before then, then I'll take her to get checked.

Thanks all.
