Looking for VERY soft cat food - maybe a jelly

I have a sick cat who is struggling wit her food. I've moved to pate - but sometimes even that is often challenging. She will take a bit of the jelly from pouches - but no bits. I can't seem to find any all-jelly or similar options - anybody know of anything?

Is blending a regular jelly pouch an option? I had a friend with a sick cat that had to do this. I can’t remember if she used to use a little cat milk to thin it or if blending the chunks was enough.

TossieFleacake · 25/03/2023 11:23

Felix makes soups ... they do have some chunks in them but a lot of the nutrition is in the liquid soupy part.
My cats love them, I get them in tesco but think pets at home have them too in store or for delivery.

You could try some bone broth for animals, you can buy it off amazon if not available locally and it can be served as jelly or liquid. If you mix it with the pate style cat food you'd have a soup. Lik e lix are another way to get calories in .

My mum adopted a poorly old girl and would often resort to blending almost to a liquid and patiently syringe feeding. Sometimes she would boost it by adding a little poultry or offal. Worked well for them.

Lots of great suggestions thanks. We're both working full time so hoping for something more practicable long-term than twice a day blending and syringing but it's certainly an option . I'll look up the soups and the bone broth.

Sheba make cat soups

Acinonyx2 · 25/03/2023 12:17

Thanks - I'll look those up too :)

Soups are like crack in my house, but they aren't a full food. Could you try something like Royal
Canon mum and baby cat mousse.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 25/03/2023 13:17

Dry biscuits with boiling water or gravy poured on, leave to stand for a minute and it softens them up to a porridge consistency, it what we used to give to weaning puppies when I was a kid.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 25/03/2023 13:19

Lik e lix sachets from Waitrose or Hills a/d from the vet (optimal nutrition.)

Rebel2 · 25/03/2023 13:20

Adding a bit of warm water to the pate and mash it up

DogDream · 25/03/2023 13:23

Luna&Me raw is so soft. It’s really easy (and cheap) to sort portion sizes too as they’re all proportioned for the day. And it will be actual good food too rather than fillers and rubbish.

I second the suggestion for bone broth as an extra too. It’s full of nutrients so would be spot on for a poorly cat.

Viviennemary · 25/03/2023 13:25

My cat was the same for quite a while. Turned out there was something seriously wrong. I think to be on the safe side take it to the vets to be checked if you haven't already.

musicalfrog · 25/03/2023 13:25

Ask your vet? Assume she's being seen by a vet if she's so unwell?

Carlycat · 25/03/2023 14:34

My old girl has Felix cat soups

Lindy2 · 25/03/2023 14:39

Lick-e-lix are little tubes of mousse. They're a cat treat rather than a meal so small, but I imagine fairly high in calories/nutrition.

Felix or sheba soups are also good. They do have some bits in the liquid but even when poorly and refusing other food, my cat has managed to eat the soups.

Pixiedust1234 · 25/03/2023 14:40

Be aware that felix cat soups and probably others are NOT a complete cat food. This means your cat won't be getting all the nutrients needed, including taurine. Please read the packaging carefully.

I've noticed that Butchers cat food (sold in sainsburys) is very very sloppy without defined chunks AND is a complete food. I feed the visiting hedgehogs on this.

Pixiedust1234 · 25/03/2023 14:43

btw Vets can prescribe a form of soup that is used to help very ill cats. Call yours up and ask. I assume they already know your cat is struggling so can prescribe it over the phone.

VariationsonaTheme · 25/03/2023 14:55

There are some ‘prescription’ cat foods you can get from the vet designed for cats who are ill and not eating much. Don’t know what’s in them but my cats behave like they’re laced with crack!

Acinonyx2 · 25/03/2023 17:26

Thanks all. Yes she's under vet care and on steroids but it's Sat in the village and didn't seem like an out of hours call issue. She did not like the prescription food at all (wet or dry) but I'll ask if they have a prescription soup. She won't have the pate now (that she loved last week...) - but she did eat a couple of pouches of Felix cat soup and I got some little moussey looking treats to try. Bone broth coming tomorrow. We know she has IBD and/or cancer so we are almost certainly on a downhill slope here.

My cat was very poorly a couple of years ago and it was touch and go. I had to try and syringe tiny amounts of food in carefully as he was not eating. Lick e lix was the only thing he would tolerate for a day or two. He was not keen to eat it but I smeared a little on his front legs - he didn't like that so he cleaned it off... and repeat..... a day or two later it was a bit better and then he slowly improved.... Hope your kitty improves...

christmastreefarm · 25/03/2023 17:45

Gourmet gold do a melting hearts version. They are quite sloppy.

Rebel2 · 25/03/2023 18:08

You could try this. It says pate but it's more mousse and for v young kittens, my cat loved it

Thanks - variety is useful as I think it perks her appetite a bit. I don't think she's going to get better though - just hoping to stabilise her at least.
