I came back from a birthday meal DCAT had urinated one side of the tray and covered. He did a poo on the other side and has made no attempts to cover. He usually refuses to go in the tray and uses a corner in our huge front garden (he does cover outside) He used to cover the litter ☹️, it absolutely stinks does anyone have any tips to get him to cover again?

My cat always leaves his poos on show…..I thought that was normal in a shitter tray…..
guess I’m just unlucky 🤷🏻‍♀️

How old is he? Has he had any major trauma recently? My 16yo boy stopped covering his poo when his brother died, two years ago. Have switched to a covered tray with a front cover flap thing, and add anti odour powder to the litter. Still have to light scented candles to mask the pong though 🤢

Have your cat checked over by a vet. Different toilet habits (including going outside the litter tray) can be signs of pain in the hip/leg joints. Otherwise try different litter or different trays, eg bigger tray or have lower sides.

First things first though. Vet appointment.

He's 6 clean bill of health, probably annoyed we went out and he had to use the litter tray. It's a very last resort for him. He hasn't pooped in there for about 9 months (last did it when we went on holiday ) it's barely used so he's probably decided to not cover so I would take it away asap 🤣. He did cover his wee it's a non clumping one but was dry at the top the wet bits were at the bottom. Little pest!

He has litter aversion anyway and had a check up including bloods last week he's fine . He goes outside to do his business The last time he did one in the tray was when we had a cat sitter 9 months ago. Maybe he's forgotten how to do it.

I feel your pain. One of mine always covered hers. But the other doesn't. Now neither of them do. 🙄

Mine too.

He goes out to wee then does the worst smelling poos indoors

Cat etiquette: The most dominant cat in each territory gets to leave their poo exposed, everyone else has to cover theirs. This is why frequently cats change covering habit when their sibling dies (and why sometimes cats follow you into the toilet to check that you flush!).

That makes sense

We have two cats (Bro/Sis) and two trays ( yes I know we're meant to have 3 , but one is a jumbo lidded and one is an underbed tray without wheels , it is ginormous )

She uses the lidded tray and always noisily scrapes the walls to let us know then saunters through having left it incovered like two Twixs slid out of the wrapper (sorry if you like Twixs)
He uses the huge uncovered and always buries .

Then the gaslighting little gits , one of them does a pooh in the huge tray , unburied
Is it Him showing off? Or Her stamoing on his terrritory ?

She is the Alpha 100%

Not all cats cover their poo.

Well...that was not what I was expecting to see you post 😂😂

Dcat thinks these sorts of normal cat behaviour are beneath her, she certainly doesn't cover, in fact she doesn't bother with going outside unless it's perfect weather and we stand outside with her, yet using the litter tray is also beneath her - her servant's clean up after her, generally in the human bath! Grrr. It's not my cat it's dsd's but 2 years on we are still making allowances that she had to move here

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/03/2023 11:50

Harry has never covered his. In his younger days he used to dig a hole, stand in the hole and do whatever he needed to on the edge 🙄
