What can we do for this stray puss

Ours is a long straight road with about 40 houses along it and quite a lot of us have cats. There's an entire tom who hangs around the area and terrorises all the resident cats, tailgating into microchipped catflaps, spraying inside and all over gardens, pooing on lawns, a proper hellraiser LOL. He hops along the back walls and makes his way along all the gardens in turn.

Not so funny is that he is attacking other cats he encounters, and has caused multiple vet trips for a significant number of cats on the road.

He's obviously doing ok in his own way as he's thin but not skinny, but is definitely a stray (always grubby, out in all weathers etc, noone on the road (or roads nearby thanks to the wonders of neighbourhood whatsapp) knows where he lives or hangs out).

What can we do?
Should we trap him and have him neutered, and then what, make sure he's recovered then release him back to his territory?
Are there any charities who will take a stray? Would be happy to pay for the vet (and certain that neighbours would chip in)

Any thoughts gratefully received!

There are charities who do TNR, I’m sure they would be thrilled to help, especially if you all clubbed together and paid towards it.

Thanks, that's really helpful - I had a quick google before but couldn't find any info that fitted, only what to do with lost cats or stray kittens.
thanks x

Once neutered he may be able to be homed as they tend to top spraying and sometimes become quite well behaved. If he isn't truly feral he may be like this.

He could also be homed as a farm cat. If you could give an idea of where you are it might be possible to suggest somewhere rather than leaving him out to fend for himself in all weathers as he would still be a stray.

Sorry forgot to @MotherBot you so you don't miss my reply.

I am so glad I know my thug hasnt got out recently or this could be him !

Can you arrange for him to be scanned to see if he has a chip ? TBH I would not be impressed if he was my cat and he got neutered without my knowledge .
( before I get jumped on for not having him done , he has had lots of bladder problems , some of which are brought on by stress and sedatives make his condition worse)
If 'your' stray is chipped he could be returned to the owner , if not then yes go ahead with the op and release

Thanks @MonumentalLentil , that’s really helpful to know. I really hope he’d calm down a bit and that might be possible!
@ScottBakula yes of course, I’d definitely check for chips. He looks very rough though, I doubt he has a full time home. I know entire toms can be nomadic, but he really does look as though he is free range.

I would definitely let a local cat charity know (not the RSPCA). A lot of them will
happily trap and chip check a stray, neuter and then arrange rehoming. Sounds like this guy is currently doing ok but it would be much better for him long term to be neutered and cared for.

Thanks for caring :)
