Cat going to the toilet on the sofa constantly!

I am a first time cat owner and I confess I have no idea what I am doing! Our cat adopted us six years ago after her old owners left her behind when they moved. She was an out door cat when we moved in but the Beast From The East prompted us to move her into the house and she has been a half and half cat ever since. Out during the night in the summer, in during the day and the reverse in winter. She has never used a litter tray, always preferring to go outside and has been very clean. Until last month. We have no idea how old she is and we suspected she had dementia. Turned out to be a kidney infection and after a course of antibiotics, she seemed her old self. Except now she uses the sofa in my home office as a toilet! I have had to throw it out today after I discovered she had peed so much on the cushions, it has soaked right through onto the sofa base below, The sofa has now been thrown out and I NEED to find a solution to this! I cannot rehome her, put her down, or force her to live outside again as she is a very loving creature but we have to find a way that we can all live together again! Does anyone have any ideas? She sleeps in my home office and I have nothin left in there but a ru and my desk and chair. I am thinking of rolling the rug up at night - will she tempted to soil in the house if all she has is a hard floor?

You could try putting a litter tray in the space where the sofa was. Rolling up the rug would be a good idea too.

You need a.litter tray. Fill it with something natural she would associate with outside. Maybe not soil like.

If the cat does pee you need to get a spray to neutralise the scent. They will repeatedly pee in the same place otherwise
I use wee away.
have there been any changes at home?

Ultra clumping litter is great for litter tray refusers, lots of litters are rough on paws and it’s like walking on Lego for them. I’d probably wee outside the bathroom if the floor was covered in Lego bricks.

They like a nice deep layer too. My Bengal was incredibly particular about his tray.

Thanks for the replies! No accidents so far since the sofa was removed. I am going to try and get her to use a litter tray again but she looked disgusted the last time we attempted it! There have been no changes at home but she was very sick, perhaps this has got her down? She has never been sick since she came to us and hasn't aged a day, so has the nickname The Immortal. Perhaps while she was sick she got into the habit? Who knows!

My late cat would pee on the sofa occasionally. The only thing that stopped it was putting something on the sofa. None of the fancy sprays worked at all. I put puppy pads inside the cushion cover to protect the inners. Fortunately it was an ikea sofa with washable covers.

My cat does this too , its incredibly frustrating.
I bought a couple of waterproof single bed covers
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B31CSMSB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Then I put a easy to wash throw over the top of it

Before I bought them I put tinfoil on the sofa , its not much good as a water proofer as the urine can roll to where ever there is a dent in the foil and onto the sofa buy my cat hated standing on it .

I agree with PP get her a litter tray with either soil or very fine litter like this one www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08XXN1G3M?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

As well as providing a tray, make sure you use an enzyme based cleaner (Simple Solution is great) for any accidents.
