My cat never stops meowing

I know it's trivial but it's driving me mad. It's like a baby crying constantly. There's nothing wrong with her, she just meows all the time, for two years. She is quiet at night thank god.

Anyone else?

How do I make her be quiet?????

Could it just be attention? Hunger? Wanting outside? Is she going to the loo ok? Eating ok? Although you say it's been a year?? mmmm maybe it's more an attention thing? What age is she?? My boy loves being 'dried' with a rough towel I keep for that purpose when he comes in from outside when it's been raining ans today he has stood beside the shelf it's on meowing to be rubbed took me ages to figure out what he wanted Grin

Sunflowersinthewind · 12/03/2023 18:21

What breed?

Tribollite · 12/03/2023 19:10

Mine is the same. If she's not eating, sleeping or on my lap she is miaowing. Has been the same since I got her from a rescue a year ago.

I've tried Felliway, wearing her out with playing, lots of attention. Nothing works, I've just accepted that she is very vocal. She is sleeping upstairs at the moment. As soon as she wakes up she will come downstairs, miaowing all the way down.

She was wailing away whilst I was on the phone today paying a bill. The person was very concerned I give her some food pronto!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 12/03/2023 19:14

Mine does that. He usually needs a poo.

He tends to yell his head off and run around until I plonk him in the litter tray. At which point he usually has a poo and then goes for a nap.

I've pointed out he can just go without telling everyone about it, but he disagrees.

3ormorecharacters · 12/03/2023 19:19

Mine is like this, he's a Burmese. He doesn't just meow, he shouts. People often think he's a baby crying when I'm on the phone. It's funny up to a point but also extremely annoying when you have to live with it 24/7. With him it's just part of his breed so we have to live with it and try to love it, as we made the choice to get an Oriental breed knowing that they're vocal. I feel for you but can't really help!

Danioo · 12/03/2023 19:25

Mine has been like this for two years now, she is 16 though, so thought to be age related. If she's not asleep or eating she is howling, shouting, singing, warbling. It's impossible to have a telephone call in the same room as her.

We creep around the house so we don't wake her up, it all gets a bit much tbh.

Nothing medically wrong.

ChocolateTea · 12/03/2023 19:27

I have a very very vocal cat too. It drives me mad tbh! We’ve tried everything, he’s healthy, he is just a moany git!

Lavenderfowl · 12/03/2023 19:50

Cats often make a lot more noise as they get older because they’re going deaf 🐈‍⬛, how old is she?

Radical0pal · 12/03/2023 19:52

She is a rag doll.

Yes there is wailing too! For ages if she thinks we aren't there. Sometimes I think she wants attention but even when I'm stroking her she's meowing.
She doesn't meow on a lap.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one but Jeez, shut the fuck up! 😂

Radical0 · 12/03/2023 19:53

She's about 9

Radical0 · 12/03/2023 19:53

Please don't say it gets worse!

Radical0 · 12/03/2023 19:54

She didn't used to be this vocal, that is true actually. We've had her since she was two.

Mateyduck · 12/03/2023 19:55

Mines like this. A big fat moaner! He doesn’t stop. I have told him I disagree with his approach to attention seeking, I think he told me to sod off, then he continued to meow for the next two hours non-stop.

Quent · 12/03/2023 20:12

I lived next door to a cat like this, who constantly...well, 'meowed' seems inadequate, because every noise was different, like BROOW MRYGGGH GRAAAAWN WRAAAR, all day. As he just liked to pop into our house for short visits, it was sort of charming but I don't how his owners lived with it.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/03/2023 20:18

One of my Persians has an awful lot to say!

Cookerhood · 12/03/2023 20:22

We have a very chatty cat, but it can be linked to thyroid problems, so if it's a new thing I would get it checked out. Particularly if eating a lot but losing weight/constantly begging for food.

That's a very accurate transcription! So many different noises, barely any of them the polite little miaow I generally associate with cats. I have 3 floors in my house and easily hear her from 2 floors away.

Sometimes she sounds like a baby, or a seagull, then there are the enquiring mrrrrps and the disappointed hmnnnnnns. And the tiny kitten pitiful miaows if she is trying to really pull on the heartstrings. And then the random Star Wars type noises.

She's 5, no particular breed. Drives me nuts when I work from home, it's relentless unless she is napping. My only course of action is to show her the hoover and she disappears for a while.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 13/03/2023 04:33

My Norwegian Forest is like this, has to announce everything to the household. It's a thing with the breed apparently (he's perfectly healthy, he had a whole raft of tests recently when he developed pancreatitis).

He comes in from outside and literally yells for me, going in and out of each room, upstairs and downstairs until he finds me or I yell "I'm in here!" and he scampers in and jumps on me, whilst still meowing away.

He meows when he wants food, when he's given food (I like to think they're meows of thanks), when he wants in to the toilet/bathroom when I've locked him out for a few minutes, when he wakes, when he's tired. It goes on.

I like to imagine what he's saying to me, I talk back to him quite often, as though we're in a conversation - maybe we are?

KnittedCardi · 13/03/2023 10:55

My Bengal cross is just like that. We actually chat all day. He honestly thinks we are having a serious conversation. He has the full range of yowling (where the hell are you), yelling (feed me), meowing (general chat), and various chirrups for happy, pleased to see you, you surprised me.

Oh, and also bites you if you ignore him. But I do love him.

Obligatory picture.

KnittedCardi · 13/03/2023 10:57

Oh, and he's not actually allowed in the sofas, but you know, how can you resist 😉

ChangedmynameagainforChristmas · 13/03/2023 11:02

I had three Siamese. There is only one left now and she is currently sitting on my knee. She is 17.
She howls when she comes in through the cat flap
She howls when she wants food
She howls at night on the landing and wakes everyone
She howls anyway.
The other two did this before they died.
I think it's a mix of confusion and wanting attention
She wants a lot of cuddles and sleeps under the covers next to me at night
It's just an age thing !

BellatrixLestrangesHeatedCurlers · 13/03/2023 11:28

She's probably gone/going deaf. My cat is 17 and has got more vocal as he's aged. He yowls (sounds like he's saying, "WWOOOOWwwwww"), and warbles/cries/trills if he can hear you talking, I guess it's a reassurance thing. When I'm on the phone or a zoom call and he's not shut out of the room, it sounds like I've got a particularly needy baby that I'm ignoring.

purpledalmation · 13/03/2023 12:09

😂😂😂😂. Sorry I don't have a cat because I'm allergic to them but the idea of this chorus of meowing cats is just funny.

Jonesthebones · 13/03/2023 13:10

Our older cat did this, it was her thyroid as with many older cats, it's very common. You can get it checked at the vets then give a small syringe of thyronorm each day and it really helps.

Radical0pal · 13/03/2023 21:27

She is really going for it now. I wish I could do a voice memo here. So loud!
