Hi all,

I've seen a cat I'm interested on the local shelters website. Does anyone have any experience with cats with one eye? This cat is a baby still at less than a year old and has only just had the eye removed due to injury. Is it much different? Would she ever be able to go out?

I had a cat who lost an eye when she was about five (but she had been blind in the eye for at least a year beforehand). She was wonderful! An absolutely lovely cat who happily went outside and lived until her 20s.

I have a one eyed cat and she's no different to my two eyed cats. She goes out. She's never been much of an adventurer though.

I had a one eyed cat - our pirate cat as we called her. The eye was removed before we rescued her due to an injury. She was older between 8 and 10 when we got her. She had other health issues (not eye related) that became apparent within a few months that impacted her and she did remain meanly a house cat, certainly never climbed fences.

Interestingly her eye was never an issue she jumped on furniture and never bumped into things. She was the most perfect girl.

When we went to reduce a cat we were looking for one about a year old but when there she completely stole my heart. I think you should meet the cat as you will know when you see them if they are right for you

An old cat of mine lost an eye in an accident aged about 5. He carried on being an extremely active and agile cat (and a good mouser) with full outside access until he died aged 17. I also felt it gave him a rather dashing look. 😹

We have a beautiful one-eyed black cat who was found abandoned as a kitten. Her eye was removed when she was about 9-12 months old, just before we adopted her.
she's had no issues at all with it, we live rurally so she is outside, up trees, hunting rodents etc etc just as normal.
She was initially extremely nervy as a rescue cat, especially if you approached her from her blind side but now she's just like any other cat!

See my thread on Snorg will be the death of me. Her lack of an eye does not seem to be bothering her at all. Although I'm not sure why she had now decided that she has to push her sister out of the way and eat from her bowl. She never ever did that before!
It's only been. Month so early days. But she's just been haring around the house.

My cat is an indoor cat anyway. So only goes into the garden.

I had a one eyed cat, she was amazing and had a full and happy life. Inside and outside.

One of my current cats, who is 2 yo has an eye problem where he can't see out of it, same- he has a great life. He's more out than in and is very active.
