How to keep them quiet after surgery??

My kittens were spayed and neutered today. Strict instructions to keep them quiet and calm but they have other ideas. My boy is jumping on his sister at every opportunity and I'm worried about her wound. I can't separate them so is there anything realistically I can do? Or am I being too cautious? Girl kitten doesn't seem distressed when boy wants to play and she is jumping up on furniture as normal despite us trying to keep her on the floor!

Just let them do what they want, you know they will regardless of what you do.

This. Just remove things which they may hurt themselves on, if you can. Perhaps put some toys on the floor, and watch they don’t get too fighty with each other.

I did find with the last three, that those jumpsuit things you now get at the vets, slowed down two, the third just made it her mission to escape the suit asap.
All three were fine after a day or two and chaos levels were as normal.

Are they savannahs?

Hi I'm goin through the same thing. Got my girl done almost 2 days ago now and last nite she wouldn't stop wanting to mental. How can you stop a kitten!

I think just keep check on the wound site, and if they get too much just separate

What more can we do! Good luck

mycatsarecrazy · 11/03/2023 07:36

You can't. It's impossible!

Mine were done at slightly different times and I did put the girl in a separate room from her brother overnight the first night... but during the day she was jumping up on to every available surface - there was no stopping her. All was fine.

Agree with the above. Good idea to get a onesie onto the girl for a bit of protection though.

Well they've had a quiet night but seem as mad as ever this morning. Not managed to get any painkiller into them though. They refused the food I put it in and they won't entertain it being syringed into their mouths (I have the blood stains to prove it!) Should I accept that if they're eating, jumping and playing that they can't be in pain?

I got your exact same cat tree!

My girl is goin mental this morning! Have given her a calm tablet but not worked. Obviously the pain meds help, but I am goin to keep in one room still, she played with boys a bit but not too rough.

Not much else we can do hah

Did the surgery not offer vests to cover the wounds?

4pink1blue · 11/03/2023 10:42

Yes we were offered a vest but it distresses them too much to be wearing anything. Even their bandages had to come off ASAP as they were getting agitated. They aren't actually bothering with their wounds so I'm not too worried about them interfering, it's more the jumping around and the wounds bursting open.

I have no idea how to keep them calm - didn't manage to with our two! They were fine though. Just came on to say your cats are beautiful!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 11/03/2023 11:09

They look happy enough!

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 11/03/2023 11:17

I think it’s just standard advice they have to give for insurance purposes.

I mean most vets have had a cat at some point, they know it’s not going to happen. It’s like take the full course of antibiotics or don’t drink alcohol with these tablets 🤷🏻‍♀️
