My girl died this morning

Not sure why I'm writing this but just wanted to put my feelings down

My girl Evie aged 9. Had her about 7 years with her son Oreo. Tuxedo girl.

Went to say good morning to her - she's usually on her chair in the back bedroom and saw her next to the chair. Went over to stroke her and say to her why are you on the floor you daft girl. She was warm and just had her tongue out and her eyes were strange. I tried to wake her but she'd gone. So sudden. No injuries, wounds or blood.

My husband had let her in this morning a few hours before. She usually goes out early morning and sits on a planter at the front of the house and watches the world go by. She trotted in with her son and ate her breakfast as normal.

She was such a good girl, no bother at all. She loved a brush and her dreamies. Sad that in death was the only time I could give her a proper cuddle as she hated being picked up. She will be so missed.

She's still on the chair in the bedroom waiting to be taken for cremation tomorrow. I keep going in and stroking her.

CollieDug · 05/03/2023 13:43

So sorry OP. They are beautiful little creatures.

myveryownelectrickitten · 05/03/2023 13:47

So sorry, OP - thinking of you and your darling kitty. Flowers

EatYourFive · 05/03/2023 13:48

So sorry for your loss.

We lost our beloved girl very unexpectedly in September, she had saddle thrombus and had to be put to sleep. She had only had her dinner as usual a couple of hours before and was only three year old. The pain was immense and I still find it difficult to talk about her without getting all teary, they have such a special place in our hearts.

Fundays12 · 05/03/2023 13:50

Ohh I am so sorry for your loss 😭. We lost our furboy in September. He was 14 and in a lot of pain which we couldn't control anymore with painkillers so had to put him to sleep. I still miss him.

I8toys · 05/03/2023 13:52

So sorry EatyourFive and Fundays. Its bloody rubbish. They've kept me company working from home and during Covid. They are part of the furniture and heartbeat of the house.

Very sad to read , but you know , from what you describe it sounds like she went quickly .
With a belly full of breakfast .
Maybe she went to her chair but didn't feel that she could get onto it ?But settled for 'close enough'

I was saying to my DD that the only chance I;ll get to cuddle our malecat is once he's gone , he still looks at me like ;I'm after his pelt . !

Has your other cat had a chance to see the body of his mum, so he'll accept she's gone ?

ourflagmeansdeath · 05/03/2023 13:53

I am absolutely so sorry for your loss OP. I'm sure Evie was a beautiful, beautiful kitty and she must be so grateful for the love you gave her throughout these 7 years.

I8toys · 05/03/2023 13:56

70isalimitnottarget - I wasn't sure what to do with that tbh. He's asleep on my son's bed at the moment. I've kept the door closed to the room she's in. He used to bully her a bit as he's 3 times her size but she would give him a swipe in return.

I'm so sorry OP. We got two kittens last year for the first time and have completely fallen in love.

They are such noble, kind and loving creatures - losing one must be so devastating.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/03/2023 14:35

Really sorry. So let your other cat see her. He will understand. My girl saw her sister and immediately understood. She never looked for her.

Yiayoula · 05/03/2023 14:42

I’m so sorry for the loss of your loving and gentle Evie. 💐 xx

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/03/2023 14:47

If she's going to be on the chair till tomorrow then yes it'll only take a few minutes to let him into the room and see the mum cat . He'll likely sniff her her paddle off .

We used to put the body of our deceased guinea-pigs back in the cage with their cage mates to say goodbye ( guinea-pigs are not the sharpest tools in the shed and do fret if something changes . Loved the pigggies but they know its true ) only overnight though , they start to develop "aroma"

And I;d recommend putting something under her , they 'leak' from cavities (bit graphic but your chair will thank you )

WinterMusings · 05/03/2023 14:49

I'm SO sorry. It hurts so much doesn't it x

definitely let him see her, I'd stay & supervise, but it'll be better for him to know than worry about where she is.

are you going to try to find out what the cause was? I'd find it hard not to know & id worry about the boy having it/eating it.

Big Hugs,
xx

He'll likely sniff her her paddle off

and paddle off

wonderofu · 05/03/2023 14:52

I couldn't read this and run. I'm so sorry. Sending you lots of love xxx

I’m so sorry op x

I wasn't going to enquire re an autopsy. They get their vets checks as normal, jabs etc and no signs of any problems. No signs of poison or foaming at the mouth. She just looks like she's asleep. No noise or crying that I heard and I was in the room next door to her this morning. Its so odd. She wasn't off her food, walking normally and going to the loo in my flower planters as normal.

I've moved her to the garage as my husband said she smelt different when he picked her up and she's now stiffing up. So I don't think I'll introduce son. When they come back from a stay at the vets and smell different they get all hissy so I don't think its wise.

So sorry for your loss💐
Are you going to bring her ashes home?

Ellmau · 07/03/2023 01:03

So sorry.

I8toys · 08/03/2023 19:21

Yes she has been sent off for cremation and we will get a box with ashes. Never had this with pets before as we've always buried them in the garden. But neither of us can bury them at a depth anymore due to health issues so this is our first cremation. No idea where to put her when we get her back. I miss her so much and keep looking out for her and listening for her.
