Is he just being old?

I've acquired my mum's old cat. He was a rescue and we've no idea how old he is; estimate is about 15. Love the bones of him.

In the past few months he's been getting shoutier. He absolutely HAS to be with you. Will guide me to the sofa just to sit with him (more than happy to oblige, though can be inconvenient). Always determined to be on me, by any means necessary. Again, lovely, but can be problematic!

Just wondering if this is normal for an ageing cat? Or do I need to be concerned that there's something underlying going on? Never had a cat before.

Cat Tax. DP had just tucked him in 🙄

I'm not sure but our cat is similar, also 15. Was always fiercely independent, not interested in interaction at all, but now absolutely loves sitting on your knee at any opportunity. Bless them, happy to oblige.

Can be related to hyperthyroidism or other health conditions so definitely worth getting a screening blood from the vets.

Is he a recent addition? When my dcat had a loss (his db not a human) he became very vocal and he was just 8..3 years on he still won't stfu and we got him a dkitten! Ungrateful buggar!

I do think from experience they get needier with age. Cats must get comfort from being close to or sitting on their humans. I think their world shrinks as they age. It's lovely that he values you so much

Possibly. Worth a vet check to be sure.

But he might also just be feeling insecure after having moved home (and people?) and needing the extra love.

Also once cats work out how to make you do something, they use that behaviour as often as possible!

Consider a cat sling / cat hoodie.

@Waveymaevey May get him checked over just to make sure... He seems perfectly well otherwise. I've not noticed anything that might suggest illness. Other than the loud demands for attention!

@Bunnyishotandcross He's been with me about a year and a half now. When he arrived he settled in almost immediately. He knew and liked me beforehand. It was originally supposed to be a temporary arrangement. Mum diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment (still is!), she felt unable to cope. Think he's staying put now; seems unfair to have to move him again in his age.
