Has anyone found anything to help stop stress urinating/marking?

My cat is urinating under a front window and I think it’s because she’s stressed about the outside world, maybe by other cats (although I rarely see them). She’s mostly an indoor cat with a cat safe garden - but this window isn’t accessible by her garden.

The reason I think this is because she used to do it under another window of the house, but as soon as we made the garden safe for her and started letting her out of that window, she stopped immediately.

Has anyone got any advice? I’ve tried feliway in the past (with the other window) and it didn’t help at all. Are there any stress relieving sprays etc that people have found do work?

To add:

  1. I’ve used 3 different enzyme cleaners and scrubbed it so clean. & I’ve blocked the area off as best as it’s possible to. It hasn’t stopped her.
  2. I can’t let her out of that window, it goes straight onto an extremely busy road.
  3. She doesn’t live with any other cats and has two litter trays available (but only chooses to use one). She seems happy in all other ways and recently passed a vet check including bloods etc.

I have had this problem and posted about it before. I tried everything you have done and nothing worked. How old is your cat? Ours is now nearly 3 and I think she is not doing it as much as she gets older. Keeping blinds closed so she doesn’t see other cats in our garden helps abit. I put her in the garage or balcony catio and let her spray away all she likes there.

I have a very similar sounding cat who loses her mind over other cats on her patio.

Feliway did work but sadly I was allergic to it.

So other strategies have been upping her fluids, occasionally Metacam, cleaning by professional carpet cleaner.

Everything helps a bit but what has been best is getting her to use her brain- chucking her outside rather than her spending 24hrs a day on the sofa, learning how to get her to play, teaching her to sit/lie down on command.

Turns out she is a bright but lazy cat and without stimulation her brain starts inventing monsters.

@Cleebope2 That’s good that yours isn’t doing it as much now, hopefully she’ll continue to chill out as she gets older. Mine is 12 (hence why she had a vet check in case it was a medical issue that was upsetting her).

I’ve decided to move her food bowl to that spot. My assumption is that she won’t wee where she eats. And maybe she’ll start associating happy eating times with that area instead. No idea if it will work but if it’s successful I’ll try and remember to report back.

@AnnaMagnani Thats a good point about getting her to use her brain more. She’s definitely lazy and in the Winter is much less active than in the Summer. I’ll try to get her playing and adventuring more.
