Help - my cat food now costs a fortune!

When we got our first kitten he had real problems digesting food until our local pet store recommended much better quality food. He thrived so we’ve always bought it, but now we have two cats it’s become really expensive.

We currently buy The Cheshire Cat’s Garden wet food, which is is 80% meat and £10.29 for 8 x 85g pouches, which we give in half pouches to each cat twice daily.

We also buy Canagan’s dry food, which is 70% meat and £20 for 1.5kg, which we give in 16g portions to each twice daily.

I’ve recently saved loads by buying cat litter from an online-only store that a friend recommended https://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/catlitter/superbenek/4610999_ which is actually much better than the pricey store-bought version, so I’m hoping to do the same with food now if possible.

So, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced but good quality cat food - wet or dry (or both) with a similar meat percentage?

We use Blink wet cat food.
No grain etc, so would assume a similar meat content to yours. Under £1 a sachet, delivered. And I quite often get a discounted box.
You can usually get a couple of trial sachets for about £1 if you want to give it a go.

Thrive dry is 90% meat. you can buy it from zooplus too

ChinoiserieNerd · 27/02/2023 12:54

Catz Finefood has excellent ingredients and is much more reasonably priced. If you want a proper budget option, try Feringa - pretty decent irgredients at around £5 per kilo. Both available from Zooplus.

I always order food from zooplus. Mine get a mix of Rosie's Farm and animomda carny. Both grain/sugar free and high meat content but reasonably priced. They were getting posher food at one point but have had to tighten belts a bit now, so Rosie's Farm is now the posh food.

Mine is now on raw which works out much cheaper. He eats Luna & Me and even with the delivery charge it is less expensive than any of the 'decent' pouches/tins.

Same here.

watching with interest - another person owned by a cat with a delicate digestive system here, he is bankrupting us! We use Royal Canin sensitivity control, but desperate to find something cheaper.

😍love him to bits, but........

Thanks very much all for the responses so far - will start researching all this!

Untamed is very good but subscription only. High meat content and no nasties. Just pure chicken or fish.
Encore is good too.
Pets at home Seriously good bistro is ok.

Sunflowersinthewind · 27/02/2023 17:38

I second Blink. I buy 56 pouches a month which is £50 including delivery. So that would be just enough? I also buy Arden Grange biscuits which are grain free.

We used to get Feringa from Zooplus, with great success for 18 months, until the cat decided one day that he would rather starve than have another mouthful of it. After a few weeks of trial and error, with much running of the cat’s arse, he’s now decided he will eat Bozita (but only the versions in jelly). Also on zooplus and has a very high meat protein content.

There's one in tetra packs on zooplus, can't remember the name, but it's supposed to be very good. I stopped buying it because there seemed a lot of jelly in it more recently, but it works out in price wise.

That’s the Bozita brand- the tetra packs are good and avoid waste & mess. We’ve not used it for long but so far the jelly is what our cat likes!

nevertakeadvicefromsomeonewhosfallingapart · 03/03/2023 12:04

That's it, Bozita. My cats all liked it too, but there seemed to be more and more jelly each time I bought them. But yes, the cats were happy about it 😀

VivietteConstantine · 03/03/2023 12:15

My cats are currently enjoying Wild Freedom - I think it's a Zooplus own brand one. It is high meat and grain free. Their poo is noticeably less smelly too, which is nice!

tempusername1234 · 03/03/2023 12:19

Butchers. Its tinned and in supermarkets and has a high meat content. Its also cheap.

BTW, the worst wet food is considered better than the best dry food according to all the advice I've read.

lljkk · 03/03/2023 12:37

Look at Zooplus bulk buys, OP.

lljkk · 03/03/2023 12:37

...ps: avoid sachets. They are inherently pricey ime.
