Pancreatitis experiences?

I think dcat has pancreatitis. Does anyone have any experience of this? He's also diabetic, which makes this more likely. He's clearly very poorly. I don't think he's drinking now. Just watching the clock until the vets opens!!

My cat had it, at age 12 two times I went to the vet and she had an injection which fixed the problem for a few weeks. The third time I realised she was in a lot of pain as I woke to her biting my face something the most sweetest cat had never done

That day she went to heaven with my other fur babies

Sending a hand hold op

If I'm honest I'm worried this might be it, yeah. But I'm also worried about getting that decision right. Too soon is as awful as too late! He'll be 16 this year. He's a lovely boy.

Our boy was diagnosed with pancreatitis at age 12. He was very poorly. It started with really terrible, horrendously smelly diarrhea and the next day he couldn't even keep water down, constantly vomitting yellow foam. Vet gave him antibiotics and fluids and kept him in over night on a drip. We thought he might not make it but he recovered surprisingly quickly, was back to his old self within a couple of days and did quite well on a fat-reduced diet with no further episodes for another three years when he died from (unrelated, genetic) heart failure.

IIRC, the vet said that a fairly high number of older cats suffer from chronic pancreatitis. Apparently many respond well to antibiotics and a controlled diet. I really hope your lovely boy can come back from this!

Thank you. I've left him in the vets for blood tests, a drip, painkillers, possibly an abdominal scan. Basically see if they can get him drinking and eating or not. Have had to put a cost ceiling on this of £2k. Hoping we can confirm what we're dealing with.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy, hopefully you'll know more soon and he can be helped!

Vets seem horrendously expensive in the UK, I'm glad it's all a lot more reasonable where I am. Obviously a highly qualified professional should make decent money, but the costs I see mentioned on here are quite daunting.

They've just called and have ruled pancreatitis out based on blood test. Which is a surprise to them! But he's got a high white blood cell count and has lost weight. The list now is inflammatory bowel disease or lymphoma. They are going to do an abdominal scan. Hoping for clarity really.

My cat had it when she was 6. She had minimal symptoms. She was critically I'll. and had morphine and ketamine. It was touch and go for a while. But miraculously she survived. No idea how. No long term consequences from it. Despite causing trouble in every other way possible. She had a feeding tube for a while. But best quickly got rid of that.

Ah kind of you to ask. Eventually diagnosed a kidney infection! An IV drip and antibiotics and he's well enough to come home later this evening. Very relieved the initial diagnosis of pancreatitis was incorrect, as that sounded hard to manage with his diabetes. Although could have done without the cost of all the scans!!!!

That sounds like pretty good news except for the cost element! Glad to hear he's doing better and hopefully back to normal soon!
