It's kicking off...

Hello,

Just after a bit of advice.

I've got three cats, all of which have gotten on very well over the time they've lived together.
Few months back they had a fight out of nowhere and it was weeks of slow reintroduction into harmony. Since being back together everyone's happy as a clam again.

One cat is particularly skittish and I was rushing around packing the car for our holiday tomorrow and I came back in the house with a crash which scared two of them. Apparently they seem to blame eachother for the shock and are now growling and hissing at eachother. The other one has had a little growl to join in before getting bored and wandering off.
I leave tomorrow until Friday and my mum's coming in a few times a day to care for them but I'm obviously stressed as anything as to what to do with them.

Do I separate overnight and hope they're better tomorrow? Or do I supervise the growling as they're still sat in the same room as eachother, neither advancing to actually fight and growls only occurring when they lock eyes?
Both seem on edge.

And what on earth do I do while I'm away? Hope they don't fight and all is harmonious? Or separate leaving one isolated in a single room again..

Any tips very much appreciated.

Our cat can always tell when something’s up, like us preparing to go on holiday. I think it’s the air of panic and frenetic activity which unsettles him. Maybe yours have picked up on that and that’s why they’re on edge?

Hopefully once calm is restored, they’ll all relax. Is your mum confident with cats? You could suggest that she separates them, if that’s an option, if they seem to be at daggers drawn while you’re away?

They can definitely tell something is happening. And it's my first holiday with my daughter so they probably think we are moving house again for the amount I've packed...!
I think they were already a bit fragile when I stormed in and scared them. :(

Mums absolutely confident and happy with them so hopefully if anything does seem to be amiss then she'll pick up on it. I've never experienced any bad blood between them until they had a big fight which scared us all and took weeks to overcome. So I'm a bit over anxious about it now. Especially as I won't be here.

They're still definitely cross at one another but the growling seems to be dying down. Let's hope for a peaceful night and a relaxed atmosphere tomorrow...!
