Hi sorry this is long just want to explain.. we have 2 9 week old boys. We have had cats from kittens before and both grew up with cats so I'd say we're fairly experienced..

We got 2 babies a week ago and they're settling in great. No other cats in the house.

Last night they were playing under the sideboard, which is on legs and has some fabric boxes under it. We noticed a wet patch and one had done a wee. Just before this one if them did momentarily get his head stuck in the handle. So I wonder if he panicked? Or they forget to go as they are playing? Like toddlers do?

We cleaned it up and put the box in the washing. But this morning one did a poo under the sideboard. While my partner was in the room.

So obviously I'm now worried this smells of toilet to them or is a place for toileting. I don't have any of the enzyme wee cleaner stuff as we were catless for awhile. So I'll buy some. But just stressing a bit about nipping in the bud.

Any tips and advice welcome xx

Get the cleaner asap!

How many litter trays do you have? They need one each so they aren’t sharing a toilet. If you only have one, maybe one has picked his own toilet area?

Biological washing powder will get the smell out.

They might be a bit hit and miss for a while. Clean the area and maybe block it off if you can.
You may need additional trays while they are learning.
I've had pairs that will share a tray and a pair where one would scent every tray then the other wouldn't use any of them. That only resolved when they started going outside!

The ideal is one tray more than the number of cats. So three trays for two kittens. Most cats don’t need that many but some do. Wash with biological powder today and then use enzyme spray as soon as you can. I would cover or block access to this spot for a few weeks. Definitely get more litter trays.

Sorry been hectic today. Just one tray as this always worked when we had 2. So I'll try an additional one. I'll get one from the supermarket tomorrow. Getting the cleaner but will try washing powder as it if from amazon so arrives in a day or 2.

Thanks

Put a litter tray where they are going and they will get used to it and yes get at least one more. They can be fussy and clean so and sos.

Are they using the designated litter tray(s) at all? Is it possible that they are not yet litter trained - in which case you need to watch them for signs of wanting to go, pick them up and carry them to the tray.

You could puppy pad the area where they are currently going, while you correct their behaviour.

You may need to consider placement of the trays. Nearer the sideboard? And put down as a few trays, and encourage the kittens to use them.
