Can I use bicarbonate of soda on the carpet where a cat has peed ?

One of our cats ( they are both keeping schtum about which one ) had a bit of an accident on the carpet , it happens I know , I calmly mopped it and cursed under my breath .
I moved the tray out to clean up stray litter and discovered where MaleCat parks his bum in the corner to pee (its his thing , huge tray , use the corner ) has gone over the side and the carpet smells .

Can I use Bicarb , if I apply it , let it dry and vacuum well , is it in any way harmful ?
I do need to do a proper carpet clean but in the interim I need a quick fix that isn't a Shake'n'Vac type .
And I have a kilo of Bicarb ( I use in the fridge )

I’ve used it before a few times without issue, then one time it stained the carpet and wouldn’t come out so I’ve never used it since!

Thank you
Carpet is ancient so not so worried about any discolouration, the cats are slowly shredding it though <sigh>

Tomorrow I'l do the bicarb so we can keep an eye on them and not let them wander through it .
I bought PetSafe carpet shampoo so thatll get done soon.

Absolutely. But clean it first, let it dry. Then sprinkle on the bicarb and let it sit for 24 hours. I used to also use neutradol to eliminate pet odours (2 cats and a dog who don’t have accidents now that they’re older but this could change).

I gave it a try worked very well. Bought an odourless spray to squoosh round the skirting board edges, one that masks but doesn’t give a scent for them to fight with and try to pee over. I did notice the carpet looked lighter but hopefully getting the heavy duty vacuum out will sort that.

I’ve always cleaned it first, dried and then sprinkled with bicarbonate. Left for a couple of hours and then hoovered.

Try using a puppy pad under the litter tray in the future. It helps if they wee over the side. I have the same problem myself but the cat litter trays are on a hard floor. Regarding cat urine; it's very difficult to get the smell out. I normally wipe up and blot the excess urine until it's nearly dry of urine and then use a load of disinfectant and carpet detergent to soak that area and spot wash the area repeatedly. I've not had that much success with bicarbonate soda and cat urine.
