Ragdoll rescue cat - what do I need?

We have just been accepted to adopt a Ragdoll. First time owners.

I know that we need litter tray, beds/ scratch/standing posts, toys, but where to get and which ones are best? (Big issues Amazon at moment )

Also Ragdoll food…should be a good quality wet? Is specialised breed ones worth it or acceptable? Should I avoid anything? (Grain free needed )

Panic setting in. Rescue not really advising us on above.

She is very beautiful. A bit timid at the moment, especially with my husband, which is unusual, as he is normally a cat magnet.

Tried a Gourmet gold fish pate. Put nose up in the air and pointedly went to the dry food to have something to eat. Will have a look at lick e lix and Royal Canin. Thank you.

She is on Go Cat dry and was on any wet the rescue had to hand. Was thinking of gradually changing the dry to a grain free, such as James Wellbeloved.

Is it a good idea above and also not introduce treats, dreamies, just yet as hollow food?

When we first got ours (as a kitten) she fell very ill after a few weeks. It was really touch and go for a while - she dropped to under 500g at one point. We were up several times in the night coaxing her to eat. We had all sorts of fancy and delicious sorts of food to try, but what she really liked was Tesco own kitten food, warmed up. Our other older cat decided that warmed food was definitely the way to go, so maybe give that a go.

Aww she is gorgeous OP - do you know what kind she is? Mine is tabby seal and looked just like yours as a kitten. See photo I posted early in thread.

my advice is put her straight on IAMS dry kitten food. You only need a small scoop a day. Don’t worry, she’ll find her appetite.

Thank you Mimi and PuppyMonkey. 500g is a scary weight. Good idea about warming it up. Iams might be worth a try.

She's a beauty @BearAusten

mimiasovitch · 14/02/2023 08:16

@BearAusten it was terrifying. She slept against my chest and barely moved all night, and we were on tenterhooks just in case the worst happened for weeks. At 7 months she's now almost as big as our elderly tortie, and an absolute menace.

The dedicated hair all dry food with a ragdoll on the front (I think royal canin) was good for our underweight, wet food refusing ragdoll. She can produce massive hair balls even with that, when she does it looks like there could not possibly have been any space in her stomach for food as well!
