Taking 18 year old to vet ....

She's not eaten for a day and a half but is drinking water. She has literally gone downhill in two short days.

Her last meal on Monday evening she vomited up again.

She is lethargic and listless.

How do I decide if this is it? I absolutely love her.

You take her to the vet and ask their advice.

BabyMoonPie · 18/01/2023 11:59

You love her so you want to do the best for her. See what the vet says and then decide

SallyWD · 18/01/2023 12:14

The vet will know. I hope she's OK.

Floralnomad · 18/01/2023 12:16

Vet , hope she feels better soon

HuntingoftheSnark · 18/01/2023 14:11

Thank you.

She's staying in the vet overnight as she's dehydrated.

Do they have an idea what is causing it?

Bestcatmum · 18/01/2023 16:24

Mine did this several times OP during the last 5 years but always recovered after treatment. She finally went at 20 or 21 I'm not entirely sure as she was feral and the end was absolutely clear it was the end.

She was sick on Monday evening and they said that maybe it was a virus or bug. On Tuesday morning there were puddles of saliva on the kitchen floor and she looked wretched, although she has been drinking water since then.

I was up all last night thinking that I needed to be kind and realistic and to keep remembering how loved she has been for 18 years, and just crying.

Ah, that's good to know! This is pretty much the first time I have taken her to the vet, aside from vaccinations. She was bitten by a badger (they think) when she was two or three. Nothing else so I have been really lucky.

I adore old cats such character. At the end she didn't eat or drink at all for two days her legs went completely and she just lay next to me looking at me as if to say I'm too tired to go on now and so on the Monday we went on her last journey.. I cried for a week.

Floralnomad · 19/01/2023 20:49

How is your cat doing @HuntingoftheSnark

HuntingoftheSnark · 19/01/2023 20:54

@Floralnomad she's home, with a bandage on her leg making her look half giraffe, and having had blood tests and very good care. Thank you so much for asking. She's been sleeping on my neck as usual, so much better than she was only yesterday morning.

@Bestcatmum bless you, that will be me too. I definitely don't want her to suffer and want to respect her dignity and quality of life, but she's been around for so many years.
