Kitten not eating wet food

Our kitten is 9 mths old and is gaining weight fine.

However he doesn’t eat much of the pouch food we give him. Goes over, smells it, walks away. Or eagerly runs over, eats about 2 oz ravenously but then walk away.

Tried him with different brands and flavours (an expensive operation when they often come in large packs) and we’ve stuck with the one the rspca said he liked best but they’re all much the same.

Any advice?

Don't bother. I feed all mine Hill's dry food which also cleans their teeth and can be left down all day.

Are they eating dry food too?

My two have dry food left out and then may or may not eat the wet food I give them a couple of times a day. I have a variety of wet foods and give a different one at each meal e.g. felix doubly delicious at breakfast and then a gourmet nature's creations at dinner time. I have tried more expensive brands but they refuse to eat them. They have high meat, no grain dry food

Yes he eats dry food more readily - it’s Purina kitten as that’s what he ate with the rspca when born/weaned.

The wet food is Felix or Hi Life.

Sounds like he’s ok as long as eating the dry food and some wet sometimes? Was just worried about getting a ‘complete’ diet.

The dry food should be complete anyway. The wet adds moisture.

Thanks everyone 🥰

Mine are pretty similar, sometimes eat the wet food (more often just lick off the jelly or gravy) and mostly graze off the dry.

The only thing to keep an eye out for is if he's drinking enough, as boys in particular can be prone to crystals & blockages if they don't take enough liquid in.

HappyintheHills · 16/01/2023 08:32

The dry food is complete and better for the teeth, if kitten isn’t keen on wet food I would drop it.

Our cat has never liked wet food ever since we got her as kitten. It is great - no stinky cat food in the house.

She will need to drink more water so always needs access to water you probably already know but just flagging in case not

asdhelp123 · 16/01/2023 11:26

Yes, he always had water in his water bowl (and of course he licks us after a bath/shower and licks the bath afterwards/perches on us to drink the bath water while we’re in it 😂)

Spotted a typo - he always has water

My kitten has just turned one and he didnt much like wet food at the beginning he now eats it with and a little dry food sprinkled on top suspect he just prefers the crunch.
