Cat food with high protein/ meat content?

ILovePigsInBlankets · 13/01/2023 22:40

DCat has always eaten Felix AGAIL cat food - because that's what he ate at the RSPCA when we adopted him!

It just never seems to fill him up though - he's always frantic for another pouch. He's not keen on dry food either.

Can anyone recommend a high protein/ high meat content food - in the hope it fills him up!

Thanks!

Do you buy raw or make your own? I'd like to switch mine over to raw

I did try making my own but getting the ratios right is quite tricky so in the end I went with natural instinct cat food. Really recommend!

Natures Menu is food, cat loves the chicken with salmon.

For dry food James Wellbeloved turkey is our favourite

Thanks so much for the suggestions- off to Google them now!

Mine has Luna & Me delivered. He's very happy with it.

We have an untamed subscription and meowing head's intermittently, it's stopped girl cat from screaming at us every time someone goes into the kitchen.

Hi my little kitten niko is a purebred black sphynx cat. She has quite a sensitive stomach and the vet put her on the gastrointestinal royal canin as she was having blood in her poo and it was very soft all the time. Has anyone else's kitten had this? The vet said it was because on the food and she hasn't had it since so maybe he's right. I don't like the ingredients in royal canin and I wanted to slowly switch her to a better dry food. I am considering the canagan Scottish salmon for cats and kittens. Would anyone recommend it? I have also found the AATU salmon and herring cat food, has anyone used it and does anyone know if it would be suitable for kittens? These have a very high meat content and are wheat free however canagan uses white potatoes in their recipe. Would either one be a good option or would anyone be able to recommend a better dry food with a high meat content.

I have seen meowing heads but I want to feed her fish and not chicken but their salmon recipe has a lot of chicken in it

Chicken is very neutral so for a cat with a sensitive stomach is good. Why are you set against it? Go with what your vet has suggested.

Nikothenakedcat · 04/09/2023 21:12

I'm not set against chicken I would just prefer fish. Take a look at the ingredients of the gastrointestinal royal canin yourself, I wouldn't eat that so I don't want to be feeding my baby that either.

dementedpixie · 04/09/2023 21:22

@Nikothenakedcat Thrive dry cat food has a high fish content variety.

WildCherryBlossom · 04/09/2023 22:23

Applaws tinned fish is pretty popular with our cats. It was recommended by a vet.

Saxendi · 04/09/2023 22:30

Canagan is very popular with my cat, another high protein cat food.

I wouldn't feed my cat that either. I'm not talking about the royal canin stuff. I was asking why you would prefer fish over chicken.

My cat eats Untamed which has a number of wholly fish recipes.

Nikothenakedcat · 05/09/2023 13:11

The breeder I got my baby from and the people at the pet store have said that maybe chicken could have also been the issue and suggested trying fish. I think chicken is one of the best choices as its a healthy source of protein. But the royal canin she's on now has dried chicken in it and she's okay so I think she should be okay with it. I've never had a cat before and as much as I try my best and research and learn as much as I can I am asking for advice. I just want what's best for her.

I am considering duck aswell and AATU do a free run duck option which looks good

I do like the chicken recipe from canagan I'm just not happy about the white potatoe in the ingredients. I've researched that it's not good for cats, am I right or is the amount in the cat food small enough that it won't have any bad effects If she'll be eating this food forever let's say.

After 15 years of living with Harry and his fussy ways I'm now of the mindset that any future cats can eat what they like. Providing they eat it and it doesn't upset them they can crack on!

If the Hills food agrees with her I wouldn't change it to be honest. Change it when she goes off it!

Heronatemygoldfish · 05/09/2023 15:56

We switched to Canagan dental. It certainly seems to fill up our two more than the old kibble did and it's waaay more protein. It's also twice the price but they're family so...
