Couple of kitten questions

Hi
Last adopted a kitten 7 years ago - other cats since have been 18mth-3 yr old rescues. For reason to numerous to go into I found myself with a kitten on Christmas Eve - he came at just over 8 weeks - so quiet little.

He's fine - insured, vet checked and had his first jabs now but I feel like I'm not sure how to do it properly.

Firstly he's been sleeping quiet happily in my room since he arrived - last 2 nights however he has been insane - woke me up at 4am this morning flying at my face and attacking my hair - for an hour. I work so I can't go without sleep for long. If he carries on being a night terror would it be cruel to move him to the study - sofa, his bed, toys, water, food and his tray as in my room. Will he be sad?

Secondly he is a bugger to feed - he gets so easily distracted it's hard to get two pouches down him a day - he seems to prefer the big cats food (cheap stuff) to his lovely kitten food. I don't feed him in the same room and try and keep him focused but he seems very hungry then gets involved in chasing my pen or a toy.

He is adorable - clean as anything, no accidents, drives my poor cats mad (we give them time away from him!) and he's so cuddly when sleeping

Any tips?

The big cats will wallop him into having manners soon enough.

Apologies for the two very similar post up thread I think mn was on it's zoomies at the time and had a a bit of a frazzled moment.

My kitten is coming up to 5 months old. She slept downstairs for a few nights and then I gave in and let her up! She used to tap me on the nose to wake me up a couple of times a night but I used to just pick her up and put her down on the floor every time she did it. She now sleeps until around 7am, wakes me up for a stroke and then goes back to sleep until I get up at 7.20!

Meal wise, she can never eat a full pouch in one go. She keeps going back to it throughout the morning but eats her evening one quicker.
Love the tree picture, sushi was the same!

Our kitten is approx 4 months. She has always slept downstairs. The other night I couldn't find her when I came to bed. Somehow she had sneaked upstairs and I only found out at 3am when she trampled across my head. She's back downstairs now! She's allowed up in the daytime & gets lots of attention but I need my sleep

Craftybodger · 09/01/2023 23:23

My kitten slept with me from day 1, novice cat minion. She now has a fluffy nest wedged between the pillows at the top of the bed. She’s nearly 2 now and she loves her fluffy nest that sometimes she goes to bed before me now!

@ghostyslovesheets DH is mostly definitely not a cat person - it's his biggest flaw. He secretly loved my last boy but when I remind of this he points out that he was the most un-cat cat in history. I don't think the daft hairy little beast had even a vague inkling that he was actually cat.

Awww! Sleeping on your neck close to your head means he thinks you're his mum I think from what I've read“

This. One of our girls still suckles my neck and she’s nearly 2 1/2 now.

yes, he will be lonely initially, no getting away from it. You say you want to give your older cats a break but they’ll put him in his place if he irritates them at night. They’ll all find their equilibrium soon enough.

unvillage · 10/01/2023 01:31

You cannot expect a baby to sleep peacefully for 8+ hours a night. He sees you as his best friend and playmate, he doesn't understand that you want to sleep all night. Put him in a safe room with toys, food, water and litter box. Since he's not used to being alone he may cry, but hopefully you know he's safe and well - and if you work out of the house he needs to know how to be alone. As he get older he will learn when is sleep time and when is play time.

As for the food, I think 6 meals a day is recommended at that age, they have tiny tummies! My boy is only just down to 3 meals at 11 months old.

Don't let him outside :)

Look at Sushi ❤️

well he was an angel last night and only woke up when the alarm went off!

so plan is to move him into the study if we get 4am zoomies with claws and slowly move him down stairs when the other cats feel happier with him all the time

thanks for all the help! And don’t worry he won’t be outside until he’s nutless

I'll look it up @Luana1

I fear our big cats need as much of a break as I do at the moment @RandomMess I think he'd be better on his own

I wouldn't worry about the big cats needing time out at night, they'll soon tell him to shut up & behave himself!!

RandomMess · 10/01/2023 11:44

I honestly he'd be better with the other cats than on his home.

Have a really exhausting play time with him just before you go to bed.

He is capable of amusing himself during the night the other will ignore him/join in/bat him away according to their mood.

cushioncovers · 10/01/2023 13:04

Op they have been several times I've felt almost overwhelmed with the kittens manic energy. But they do start to slow down and eventually sleep more. Just persevere. Get plenty of toys including a laser light to wear him out.

ghostyslovesheets · 10/01/2023 19:37

Think he might be okay with his big brother Ben - just caught them like this

He has his uses as an extra hot water bottle 😆

They will snuggle up just fine

Beamur · 11/01/2023 13:35

Ah that's a great photo. Looks like kitten is settling in nicely. Lovely big brother work there too. (Boy cats are my favourite - I have a houseful of highly strung girls!)

LadyOfTheCanyon · 11/01/2023 14:20

Omg he's adorable. I think I'd put up with any amount of spice for that little face!
