Rate for cat sitting

Our regular cat sitter has moved away and we need someone for when we go away.

Our neighbours (with lots of pets) have teenagers and we were thinking of asking them if they’d like to feed them. It would consist of one of them coming over in the morning and evening and feeding two cats and scooping out the litter tray. Is £10 a fair daily rate for it? It would take approx 15 mins each visit (max) so 30 mins a day. The teenager is 16/17.

If you don’t think it’s a fair rate, please can you tell me what you think is.

I'd say that's fair. I did cat feeding for a neighbour and it was either a note in a card on their return from hols or a touristy type gift from their holiday location e.g. box of fudge! To be honest I didn't expect payment as it wasn't an onerous job being a cat person and a neighbour so no cost to me.

Sounds about right, we pay our local teenager £5 a visit, usually 2 meals a day. This is easier to count, because day 1 is usually only dinner and the last day probably only breakfast. Just means that our expectations are the same

That is exactly what we pay a local teenager £10 per day to do. They live less than 5 mins walk away and due to being at school they are always here when we want to go away (our DC are older so we try to avoid school holidays). The teen involved is 14 so it's great money for her and we know the parents well so there is someone on hand if there were any issues. We agreed the rate with them as our local cattery is £15 per day for 2 cats, and that means our cats get to stay at home. Still cheaper than a 'professional' cat sitter though so it's win win for all of us.

Thank you very much for the replies. I spoke to the parents this evening and they said yes 😃

I set up a WhatsApp with me, the teenager and the teenagers mum, so all conversations were monitored. However my job is dependant on a DBS check so am extra careful.

I think that's very generous as my cat sitter (who does cat sitting and dog walking as her own business) charges £11 for 2 visits.

I used to pay my cat-sitter £12 for 1/2 an hour ) she used to sit with my cat after feeding him), twice a day

Goodness me, that's incredibly cheap and not even minimum wage once you factor in travel 😬

I run my own business and charge £16 for 2 x 15 minute visits a day.

Your right!! I just checked her message advising me it's going up to £11 per visit!

We pay our teen cat sitter £5 a day for 2 visits. This was set by another neighbour who uses her. Usually she has 2-3 cats on our street.

I think £10 is generous - but I'd also be willing to pay if that was the rate. All being well they would be in and out in 5 mins, but there is the potential to have to contact me about a problem, dispose of dead birds etc.
