Is it bad for them to regularly change their food?

My (8 month) old kitten has been on Tesco kitten food because that's what she was having when we adopted her so we continued. However, Tesco is frequently out of stock and yet again today they've subbed with something else, this time Felix. Is it bad for her to be regularly changing brands?

You could end up with quite a squitty bum if you suddenly change their food. It's recommended that you swap them over slowly by replacing part of each meal & slowly increasing the amount of the new food over time.

Having said that, mine had to change from normal/indoor cat food to special renal food recently and I changed over only a couple of days and no poo issues.

I've never had a problem with switching foods, last cat liked dry food variety and ate any wet food, current cat likes the same dry food but variety in wet (except whiskas which upset her tummy).

Thanks both. I'm hoping it'll be better when she goes on the the adult variety which never seems to have stock issues. I never know whether I'd be better off switching to Tesco adult whilst waiting for stock, or a different kitten brand. Have opted to stick with kitten so far due to nutritional content.

I've never had issues changing food. Although my boy is fussy and is always getting bored with his food and refuses to eat it so we have to change it for a while.
Only issues we have had is if they are in good with jelly for instance and you change to gravy based food, he got a runny bum 🙈

Vet has said to me inboard it's good to have a few chickens for them incase if a situation that their normal food is not available.

On another note my cat was put on to adult food at 9 months at vets advice as he was getting chunky as kitten food is higher I. calories/fat/proteins so giving adult food temporarily shouldn't be an issue until you can get the kitten food again.

Should say food with jelly ^^

I rotate between several varieties of wet food as my 2 boys are fussy buggers. If they don't like the look or smell of the food then they won't eat it. I have made many donations to the SSPCA bin in our local tesco!

If your cat has been spayed then you should be fine giving adult food now.

Thanks all, yes she was spayed a couple of months ago. Will see how she gets on with Felix and move back to Tesco after, adult if necessary.

MrCat doesn't seem to mind his wet food changing, but throws up if we change his dry food too fast. He prefers Tesco and Waitrose own-brand wet foods to any of the brand names we've tried. Won't even touch Felix tuna but will gobble up Waitrose tuna. We have a big box and just chuck in a random selection of Tesco and Waitrose pouches, plus the occasional Felix (excluding tuna) or Lidl, so he gets a variety of brands across the week. We deliberately got him used to a variety of brands, as we didn't want to be stuck if his favourite was out of stock.
