Townhouse....where are your trays?

Hello, eagerly awaiting my new boy, now live in a townhouse & thinking 2 trays is best as more space to cover etc.

I've put one in the top bathroom (door open all the time, top floor going to be used by guests so will have access most of the time)

No room in the hall for a tray, next thought is the living room...which feels a little meh but would be handy in the first few weeks when he'll be in the living room during times we are coming & going to avoid any escapes! I would get a fancy litter tray in a unit thing so would look nicer in the living room.

The only other space I have is the dining room but it's right next to the catflap which I've read isn't the best idea!

As you can see I'm probably over thinking this & now an confuzzled...help a cat mum to be out please

Mine is in the kitchen. I had the kitchen designed round the placement of the litter tray. My kitchen is absolutely minuscule. But fitted a breakfast bar in and litter tray us underneath.

I have two cats and their two trays are next to each other right next to the cat flap in the back door. I had also read this isn't the best idea however we really have lack of anywhere else for them to sensibly go. However, both happily use the trays and their cat flap. They even use the trays if the back door is open, so they obviously don't feel threatened, they just face the open door.

Obviously every cat is different but just inputting that we've had trays next to cat flap/back door since day one and they've always been fine 😊

Have one in the living room, tucked in beside the sofa near the window with a plant in front of it. You can’t see it unless standing over it! Has a lid to hopefully block a few whiffs

We have two litter trays - one in each bathroom. Easy to sweep up escaped cat litter/ clean up accidents (one cat tends to have bum over the edge issues despite trays being extra large and hooded) and windows are always on vent. Bonus privacy points for both them and us slaves.

Iris Ohyama, Cat litter tray with perforated lid, no odor & litter spill, large entrance, scoop included, for cat - Top Entry Cat Litter Box TECL-20 - Black amzn.eu/d/aXzyrW0
Wherever you decide to put them, these litter trays are brilliant! So much less messy, and no accidental bums over the edge 😹

@PatChauncey i would love even just one of those!! Sadly cat in question, whilst gorgeous is utterly devoid of any intelligence iyswim!!

PatChauncey · 29/12/2022 19:17

They are brilliant @Alphabet1spaghetti2 even little kittens can manage them (I know it's a big Mumsnet nono but I breed Siamese kittens) so maybe worth a try?? Siamese are generally quite clever though 😸

We have 6 indoor cats and a 6 bed house over 3 floors. They don't have access to the top floor (it's just my sewing room, DH office and a bathroom). We started out with 7 trays (working on the recommended 1tray per cat plus one) 2 in the living room (front of the house) two on the middle floor outside the bathroom, two in the utility room (back of the house) and one in the hallway. Due to lack of use we now have two in an enclosed u it on the middle floor and just one in the utility room.

And can I just add that 'ever clean' litter has changed our lives!! No errant poops, no smell, and is just the best one we've tried. Brilliant stuff!!

Think you all for your feedback..sorry have been MIA the lurgy got me!

@Sagittarius25 interesting, thank you, I may give the tray near the cat flap , he's going to be in for a few weeks anyway so maybe he'll get used to it therew before he perceives any predator threat?!

@PatChauncey those trays look interesting! Not seen before, I'd worry he may not fit...he's a big lad but will keep in mind once he's settled.

@stclair this is what we are thinking along the lines off, functional for all lol

Just been told we can't pick him up for another 2 weeks so whilst gutting it does give me time to de Christmas & get everything in place....for him to probably ignore lol

Thanks again
