Worms

My Dcat has worms. She is on a four week worming/ flea spot on from the vet. She isn't due to get it again until Saturday.

In theory she should still be covered from last dose. Do I give it a whole week early? Contact the vet to see if she should be on different product or maybe dose? She was weighed at last check up. She is 12 and I don't want to take chances with her. Is a worm poo count for cats a thing?

No vet open today so just posting for advice.

I think I'd contact the vet to see if the product is still suitable, they'll be able to advise on giving it earlier too. You could do a worm count, but can't really see the point as you know she has them so needs treating anyway. The wormer you're using does cover tapeworm as well as roundworms etc I presume, as tapeworms can need a different drug to eliminate them. I think the spot ons do cover them though.

Thanks, it does say Roundworms, hook worm tape worm and prevent of heart worms. You would think that would be every kind.

I use a monthly spot on wormer/flea treatment that covers most worms but not all. I have to give a wormer spot on every 6 months to cover the worms that the monthly treatment doesn't kill.

Oh that's interesting. Will have to see what the vet says. She does hunt so probably susceptible to all kinds.

The spot on we were using didn't cover tapeworms so we now have a different spot on for that.

Unlike tick and flea control products there are no dewormers that have any persistence of effect or protective effect. Many of them work very well to deworm but if your cat is exposed again to worms (eg.eating infested mice) then she gets them again. I’d check with your vet what they’d recommend for treatment now and how often it can safely be given.

It's unlikely that they would be back so soon.

Cat worms are different to human ones though.
