Fleas on very poorly puss. Dose or No?

Beloved dcat's days are numbered Sad . Vet says it's probably lymphoma but dcat also has random heart and liver issues going on. Recently he's been on a strong dose of steroids which has given him a bit of a second lease of life. Vet has assured us he's not in pain and is feeling ok so it's not time for him to go yet, but we know he won't make old bones and the steroids will only have a temporary effect. Vet reckons we're looking at months max but says who knows...

To my horror he's picked up fleas (flea dirt seen in his coat) but the flea meds say don't administer to a cat that's ill. We have a second cat who is a bit of a lad in and out all the time so he's flea-dosed to the max but what do I do about Sickboy? Do I dose him despite his illness or do I just let the fleas run amok and reinfect his brother ? Will the flea meds be very hazardous to him?

Anyone know? Any advice welcome.

I would check with your vet to be on the safe side. I hope you can get it sorted out for him.

I wouldn't if I could avoid it. I would comb him if he would let me.

Thanks @PlaitBilledDuckyPuss of course that's the right thing to do. I'm kicking myself that I didn't ask last time we were at the vets. Our vet bills for scans etc etc have added up to more than our insurance annual max already this year, so I suppose I was hoping to avoid adding even more costs for this. Sigh.

Hopefully it won't be more than their basic consultation fee.

I'd flea with a tablet not the stuff you put on their skin. Kinder than letting cat remain with fleas and itching their skin all the time.

Give your vet a call and ask on the phone. Likely one of the reception team will be able to speak to a vet and call you back. If he's been in for treatment recently then they'll have an accurate weight and all the info they need.

They may advise a specific product/ against a specific product. I doubt they'd need to see him for a clinical exam first.

Give it a try.

Thanks everyone. You're right, I'll give the vet a ring.
