Cats & indoor plants

Our beautiful cat died back in the summer and we are picking up our new rescue cat this weekend- super excited! Just wondering what others do in relation to indoor plants and cats. I have been given a cheese plant which I note is toxic to cats if ingested. I have lots of spider plants etc which are fine. Our new cat is 4, been at the rescue centre for a year and lived rough most of the time before that. As far as we know our previous cat never ate any of our house plants! Hubby wants to remove all possible risks! 😂is this a bit over the top ? Do you have houseplants and cats ?

Hello, I have a cat and lots of plants. Luckily he's not a climber so anything that I'm worried about that I had pre-cat goes up high and anything else I have is non toxic to cats. TBH though I know I'm lucky that he doesn't climb, appreciate not all cats are as lazy as mine!

Forgot to add that I hope your new furry overlord settles in quickly and brings you many many years of joy.

I love houseplants I had to get rid of all the poisonous ones before the kittens arrived our previous cat never nibbled a plant. These even now at 2 often nibble plants. Mine are climbers so there are few places I could safely keep plants away from them. It’s not worth the risk IMO.

Hi OP, I’ve only got cat friendly plants like spider plants, calathea and ferns in places they can reach them (I’ve got 4 cats). I have a monstera but it’s on a high shelf in the bathroom that they can’t access. As pp said best to eliminate risk from plants otherwise.
So happy you’re taking a long-stay rescue on, sounds like you’ll be the loveliest cat parents. Hope it all goes well, cat photos always welcome in the Litter Tray! X

I have non toxic ones. Cats will ignore a plant for years then eat it and need in patient treatment.
