Rodent ulcer / fat lip

My cat has had a rodent ulcer for about a month. She's a rescue I've had for a year, it just suddenly came up.

It subsides slightly then comes up again, I can't see a pattern to it. Does anyone have any tips for dealing with them? I took her to a vet but he just said to keep an eye on it and bring her back for a steroid injection if it didn't go, but that often they came back anyway after the injection. The vet trip was so traumatic I really want to avoid another trip if possible. He said it was probably an allergy.

So far I have given her:
Flea and mite treatment
Given only wet food for a few days (she only has canines so thought chewing on biscuits might be making it worse). This made it worse if anything.
Given only dry food (mixed with water) for a few days
Given lysine (she has had cat flu in the past so immune system not great)
Vacuumed more in case of mites
Changed my face cream (kiss her a lot on forehead)
Her bowls were stainless steel anyway, but I changed to ceramic. Have now got raised ones that are tilted.

I'm running out of ideas! I did have her on different food for a couple of weeks before it began, but have put her back on something she ate for ages without issue. She was fairly stressed when it began - fireworks, fight with another cat, I had a guest staying. But she has had a quiet life since.

Hi. One of my cats had a recurrent fat lip that was 99% definitely due to her sister being a cat flu carrier. It was her reaction to the virus, just like a cold sore. There wasn't much we could do, just keep an eye for it becoming infected. The lysine is good so maybe keep going with that.

Always return to the vet if it seems infected or giving her pain.

Thanks, that's helpful to know. I feel like I'm looking for an allergy that doesn't exist.

It doesn't bother her at all, she eats, plays, sleeps etc fine and I'm keeping her bowls extra clean to try and not get it infected. I did wonder when it first happened if her immune system was a bit down - the weather got cold, and she had a bit of a cold and runny eyes for a few days.

Yes that does sound like she has cat flu symptoms - the fat lip will come up just like a cold sore at different times. I wouldn't worry about it too much, just keep doing what you're doing.
