Cat has in the last week or so developed a brownish sore/scab/patch under his nostril, he's got a faint one on the left now too. I've tried to wipe it off but wouldn't come off easily and didn't want to hurt him if it is a scab. Can't tell if it has come from his nostril or not. He's booked in for vets Saturday but just wondering if anyone knows what it might be ?see pic, (not his best angle!!)

Hopefully it's Just muck! My parents white cat used to get covered an all sorts. He's gorgeous though. And just look at those tiny teeth.

Wonderfulcheapfalafel · 01/12/2022 14:05

Thanks @Toddlerteaplease , I'm hoping it's muck too although will be a bit embarrassing at the vets when they just wipe it off and charge me ££££. It does seem to have got bigger but who knows where he sticks his nose!
And yes, the tiny incisors...he has one tiny gap as well from a previous mishap, very cute!

It's not a dead tick is it. Can't quite tell, but it looks odd. Hope he goes on ok at the vet. He's a gorgeous boy by the way.

It looks like it could be cat acne… any more black patches or flecks of black dirt like substance around his mouth or by his chin? Plastic food or water bowls are a big culprit.

My first thought too.

Could be cat acne. Aka cakne in our house. Wipe gently with a wet cotton wool pad and see what comes off.

EmmaC78 · 01/12/2022 14:45

I thought cat acne too. My old cat used to get it although it was normally underneath his chin.

Wonderfulcheapfalafel · 01/12/2022 15:09

Well just when you think you know all about cats you learn they can get acne!

Can't get near him to wipe it atm, will have to wait for.some assistance, it does seem to be a dark brown/blackish substance though. pretty sure it's not a tick. He does use a plastic food bowl, I'll Change this straight away in case that's the culprit although he's been using it for 3 years now with no issues.
Any ideas what vet will do for cat acne?

We were given medicated wipes for ours - usually on the chin though, as pp have said

FlounderingFruitcake · 01/12/2022 16:03

Definitely change the food and water bowls to metal or ceramic straight away, and also change them daily. My cat developed it at 11 after years of being fine, it’s a bit random, but once you do have it the plastic has to go as it harbours bacteria. You can get medicated wipes to clean it with from the vet if it’s a bad infection but you can also get them from amazon if you’re certain that it’s cat acne that you’re dealing with (and not something more sinister like a tic as suggested by PP) - search for CLX wipes.

Guessing tick also
.. Ddog had one behind her ear. Gross.

EmmaC78 · 03/12/2022 21:41

What did the vet say?

Wonderfulcheapfalafel · 04/12/2022 01:05

Hi@EmmaC78 vet said they weren't sure what it was, other than a sore nose from him hurting it somewhere. Paid for obligatory antibiotic injection and have to take him back in 2weeks if not cleared up..
He's currently lying on me purring so don't think he's that worried.

Should add they did clean the nose scabs up with a cotton wool swab before handing him back
