They think my poor old boy has ringworm ( still to be confirmed) and another infection on top of that.

been giving him some eye drop antibiotics things for the last week while the test results came back. It’s on his face and ears. I accidentally knocked his ear this morning and he cried ( broke my heart )

The has been okay to apply. But now we are on liquid antibiotics. He won’t eat it in his food. Mostly as he is not really eating much at the moment and the medicine smells regardless of what I put it in. Does anyone know if a good way to get it in his mouth?

You can gently syringe into the corner of his mouth- slowly is important.

Does it come with a syringe? My cat's on liquid medication twice a day, and generally we hide it in a lick-e-lix treat, so that might be worth a try. But there was a time he wouldn't reliably eat the lick-e-lix so I had to syringe it into his mouth. Its a bit daunting to do at first and I did miss his mouth a few times in the beginning but you quickly find the knack of it and then it is quite easy. Good luck

It does have a syringe. His ears are covered in the infection and painful. So holding his head to get the syringe down it is hard without really hurting him. This is just awful. I feel so sorry for him. He is nearly 14 and now can’t get out his cat flap to the garden anymore.

How about putting it in pate? Mine will eat anything in pate.

thelobsterquadrille · 28/11/2022 18:47

If you can't hold his head, can you borrow someone to help you?

One of you wraps his body and legs in towel so he can't run or scratch, and the other holds his chin/mouth and gets the medicine in? That's what we have to do with one of our cats as she's so wriggly it's impossible to do it alone.

Lik-E-Lix is your friend

FluffyWinterKittens · 30/11/2022 15:55

Poor kitty and poor you, that sounds awful. 😢

We had similar problems with our old boy who had to take lots of meds in his last year. Most tablets were easy enough to hide in treats and paté, but I'm afraid we never found a good solution for liquid meds. Just the sight of the syringe was enough to send him into a panic. In the end we asked the vet for tablets instead of liquids wherever possible. Not sure if there's an alternative for your cat's current antibiotic in tablet form and what extra cost this would come with, but I would seriously consider exploring this if kitty is in too much pain / too stressed out.

I'd get tablets. Less messy and easier to find if they spout it out!

We have it down to a fine art now. I hold ( very carefully becuase of his ears ) and somehow my husband is getting the medicine in his mouth. Getting some major evils though.

When we both walk towards him he dashes of as he now knows
