I don’t mean scooping poo or clumps - I mean the whole replace litter shebang. Chuck our old, yes, but then how and where do you actually clean it ?!

Put the whole lot into a strong carrier bag. Wash the tray in the sink, with plenty of disinfectant and washing-up liquid, in hot water.

Itisbetter · 25/11/2022 18:06

Line it with a plastic bag, lift it out and bin it.

Outtasteamandluck · 25/11/2022 18:10

I take to garden and use hosepipe over drain

Yarnosaura · 25/11/2022 18:16

I tip out what's left, spray with whatever cleaning spray I have in, and wipe it out with kitchen towel. It just gets done in situ as it's not a messy job.

defi · 25/11/2022 18:18

I empty it out, pour boiling hot water in it. Rinse then douse in bleach. Repeat.

FlounderingFruitcake · 25/11/2022 18:19

Mine cleans itself. When it’s time for a full empty, which we do monthly by pressing the empty button, then I just wipe it out with a bit of anti bac before refilling.

What magic litter tray is this?

Wingingit11 · 25/11/2022 18:20

Can’t help but feel but grim about prospect of swishing round diluted cat wee in my sink as don’t have a utility 🫣

The litter tray lives in the bathroom so pour contents into bin bag fill with hot soapy water in the bath and swish with poop scoop. Then carefully tip the water into the toilet being careful to leave any bits of litter in the bottom corner - a bit like pouring fat off when you make gravy Grin

Then remove remaining sludge with kitchen roll. Refill with disinfectant and swish some more. Pour down toilet and dry off with kitchen roll. Refill.

Spray bath with disinfectant and rinse.

Wingingit11 · 25/11/2022 18:21

@FlounderingFruitcake is that the one that’s about £150?

OP posts:
MrNook · 25/11/2022 18:21

I empty it, rinse in kitchen sink with hot water clean with antibac then spray with disinfectant

We make sure the dry washing up is all put away first and wipes down the sides after incase of any splash black

CheapWine · 25/11/2022 18:22

i line mine with newspaper so they rarely get really icky, I then hose them out in the downstairs shower.

Um no, it cost a hell of a lot more than that 🫣

dementedpixie · 25/11/2022 18:25

I tip contents into a bag and spray litter tray spray in and wipe out with kitchen roll.

Mueslikid · 25/11/2022 18:27

Ours is in the downstairs loo.
Empty into a plastic bag, spray with cleaning spray, leave for a couple of minutes.
Rinse and swill round with hot water, pour away into toilet.
Dry with toilet paper.

Igotthegoose · 25/11/2022 18:30

At the moment. We are lining with liners and lifting and disposing in bin. Then spraying with pet friendly antibac and soak in boiled kettled water outside. Then drain and swish with clean water.

Wingingit11 · 25/11/2022 18:34

@FlounderingFruitcake which ones is it ?

Tray gets upended in a bin bag and walloped on the underside - face the tray outwards to avoid any eye watering moments or the absolute horror of misjudging the thump and depositing an entire tray's worth of stuff onto one's feet. Bag is rapidly tied up and taken straight to the outside bin as per council instructions. At arm's length, usually.

Tray is relocated onto patio and doused with boiling kettle water and detergent. Quick scrub, tip out, rinse and dry with kitchen towel in winter (air dry in summer). Repeat with lid assembly. Other human takes this opportunity to ensure the floor is absolutely spotless and any dusty paw prints are removed. No disinfectants are used because poisoning cats through a failure to dry the surface tends to cause distress.

Tray is returned to downstairs bathroom and refilled whilst the Wee Furry Shite mithers to be the one to christen the bloody thing whilst the litter is still being poured in.

It's one of the easier jobs in the house. I would line the tray, but a) we don't get free papers delivered round here and b) said Wee Furry Shite would realise he had an opportunity to not just dig all the way to Australia, he'd have lovely, satisfying ripping and clawing to entertain himself with for about 20 minutes per pee and then emerge with grey papier-mâché that would need to be extracted from around each individual claw and toe.

Cossete · 25/11/2022 18:40

I second lining the litter tray! We just lift the whole bag out and chuck it away, then reline with another bag. Never need to rinse the litter tray and the smell doesn't soak into the plastic.

RumNotRun · 25/11/2022 18:40

I use recycled cardboard trays so no cleaning required. When they're dirty, I just bag up the litter tray and put out a new one with fresh litter.

thenewduchessoflapland · 25/11/2022 18:40

Litter tray liners have been my salvation.

FlounderingFruitcake · 25/11/2022 18:45

Please don’t judge me:

Yes I can download usage stats. No I’ve never done this (DH definitely has). It’s brilliant though!

mathanxiety · 25/11/2022 18:47

Empty it out into a bin bag, scraping off clumps that cling.

Take it outdoors, fill with water from the hose plus dishwashing liquid, let it soak for a while. Scrub with an old dish brush. Empty into drain.

Refill with water, add half a cup of neat bleach. Use the old scrubbing brush to scrub it. Empty again.

Spray with enzyme spray when it's dry.
