Cat acting withdrawn after a fight

Well I'm guessing he had a fight, he came in this morning with tufts of hair sticking out, hasn't eaten his food, been upstairs all day, sitting in the same position (hasn't lounged around like normal) he just seems really sad bless him. I have checked him over the best I could but he seems really spooked, didn't find anything or see any visible injuries.

Is this just normal behaviour after a fight ?

He's had a few in the last, he's actually pooed himself a couple of times in the past when being attacked. Bless him, he's a softie

Attached a pic of his usual lazy self

He's hiding under my bed now and has been for the last couple of hours

Ah bless him, he’s gorgeous.
It’s not just about the physical fight with cats, he probably lost a chunk of territory over it too. Just keep an eye on him physically and love on him :)

badjaw · 10/11/2022 01:29

Such a shame to see him sad, he has spent years building up that territory lol

His eye looks puffy in this photo. He might be feeling a bit sore ?

Floralnomad · 10/11/2022 01:36

He may well have a small puncture wound that is not noticeable , I’d pop him into the vet to get him properly checked .

ZestFest · 10/11/2022 01:49

Definitely take him to be checked. Mine have been in all types of scraps and several times have sustained wounds that we didn't see until they became infected. Much better to treat him now.

Cw112 · 10/11/2022 01:50

Yeah I'd also be inclined to call into the vets for a wee check up. Sometimes they can hide wounds and pain better than you'd expect. Poor darling he is gorgeous. Hope he's back to his normal wee self soon.

200degrees · 10/11/2022 01:53

I’d also go to the vet x

Geppili · 10/11/2022 02:02

Could be developing an abscess by his puffy closed eye.

Geppili · 10/11/2022 02:02

I love the fact that you chose your sofa to match him.

badjaw · 10/11/2022 02:06

Sorry it's an old picture!

But yes probably worth getting him checked because he's not himself. He is actually due his vaccinations anyway

One of mine gets into scraps and can often be a bit subdued afterwards... it's usually just wounded pride, but occasionally it turns into a physical issue (puncture wounds that become abscesses).

Annon12345 · 10/11/2022 02:58

This happened to mine. Bad fight and she ended up staring in the same spot not moving for hours, then hiding. This was after we'd taken her to the vet as she was injured. But this did happen to ours

badjaw · 10/11/2022 06:27

He seems much better this morning, has gone outside and eaten his food.
Maybe he was just sulking?
I will keep an eye on him though

My usually dozy Persia had a punch up with a cat in her garden. She was a bit quirky but didn't think much of it. Until a few days later when I picked her up
And found an abscess on her cheek. Turned out she'd also got a punctured eyeball. And what I'd though was her usual eye snot, was the jelly from her eye. Fortunately she made a full recovery.

Defiantlynot41 · 10/11/2022 14:17

Hiding is definitely a problem, twice my cat has been very ill with a deep abscess that I couldn't find. Please take him to the vet - my cat was off her food and would only eat if I gave her room service, very unlike herself, and lots of hiding. She went down to 2.4kg and it was very worrying

Clarich007 · 10/11/2022 16:15

I agree with the other posters. This has happened to me 5 times while he was establishing his new territory after we rescused him.
If he has been bitten it can take a few days for an abscess to appear. I'm an expert now.😁. It usually starts with being withdrawn, then frantic licking followed by a bald spot and a swelling.
Hope he is ok soon
