I'm scared of my cat!

She is 15 yrs old and used to be the sweetest girl, totally loved me, slept by my side all night but she keeps biting me. Not just a little nip but full on snarling, last time was so bad I was very nearly hospitalised and i had two lots of antibiotics.

She looks at me as if she hates me and is just waiting for the opportunity to attack me, I'm so scared of her now I actually had a nightmare about her trying to kill me.

Any idea what is wrong with her

Is she in pain? I think she needs a vet check.

IToldYouAmillionTimesAlready · 06/11/2022 19:50

It sounds very much as though she's in pain. She certainly isn't well. Ring the vet in the morning.

Goatling · 06/11/2022 19:51

She seems perfectly ok, eating and drinking normally, still going outside, but I think you're right, I will take her to the vet.

That's really unusual behaviour. Definitely get her checked.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/11/2022 19:55

In pain. Hope she will be ok. She sounds very stressed.

Feysriana · 06/11/2022 19:56

Vet. She could be in pain. Also possibly dementia but that would be very unlucky.

Emmamoo89 · 06/11/2022 19:56

Definitely take her to the vet.

Longdarkcloud · 06/11/2022 19:56

I agree — she is beside herself with pain. I’d think she is as confused as you are. Cats can get all the same ailments as we do but, of course, can’t ask for help. Is she very elderly? Could she have dementia?
Be very careful and wear thick protective clothing to get her into a cage.
Hopefully she can be fixed but if not a peaceful end will be a mercy for her.
Do come back and tell us the outcome.

Goatling · 06/11/2022 19:56

Thanks all. I'll let you know after we've been to the vet.

At 15 I would assume she's ill, in pain or getting dementia.

Definitely get a vet check.

Goatling · 06/11/2022 19:58

I wondered about dementia too.

Poor thing and poor you. Good luck at the vet’s. Flowers

custardbear · 06/11/2022 20:00

My cats behaviour changed and it was because she was dead and almost blind and she was also having little mini strokes. You could see it in her eyes as there were some burst vessels so they looked a little bit red from certain angles.
Good luck

cushioncovers · 06/11/2022 20:01

She needs a vet check sounds like she's in pain and lashing out.

Frostine · 06/11/2022 20:07

Our cat can go through sta ges of having my dh , full on hissing , and arched back , 10 minutes later she is taking dreamies out of his hand . Having a plug in Felliway can help.
Agree a vet once over won't hurt , but sadly be prepared as others have suggested , for dementia.

Goatling · 06/11/2022 20:10

I hope it's something easily treated, I miss my sweet girl.

If this behaviour is out of character then I'd take her to the vet OP

Goatling · 07/11/2022 18:13

Well, a morning spent at the vets and lots of tests reveal......nothing! She is completely fine but has a week of painkillers to see if there is any change. I guess she just hates me lol.

We had similar with our 13 year old cat. Bit toddler dd one day, next day me, day after snarling and hissing and trying to bite again so next day we took her to the vet and had her put to sleep

I hope the meds help @Goatling. If not then the week after see what difference calming ones have. Dorwest do a really good one, I think it’s called Skullcap. And Pet Remedy do a good plug in.
