Raw Meat diet for cats

Willowcat77 · 31/10/2022 13:56

Does anyone here feed their cats/kittens on a raw food diet? I'm considering taking out a subscription with Bella and Duke for my 2 kittens as apparently raw meat is the healthiest and most natural food. I'd love to hear your experiences and opinions. Many thanks!

We feed ours Luna and Me. It’s what he was on at the breeders. He seems to be doing well on it, likes it, is healthy.

My girl loves PurrForm. She’s been on it for 2 years, started because she had trouble digesting regular wet food. Also great is that it reduces the stinky poos!

We use Luna and Me as well. Ours like it and due to the increases in cat food prices it's now cheaper than feeding standard pouches like Felix

It's complete (we use the patties) so you don't need to mix anything in, the cats like it, and it's easy to store.

Thanks for your replies everyone! Do you feed your cats pure raw food or do you mix it with dry kibble or cooked wet food? Is there much to choose between the different raw brands and what is the cost compared to standard cat food? Thanks!

I am interested in this as well.
Can't believe it sometimes when people try to turn their cats into vegans!
So a nice and meaty diet is what seems the most natural for cats but my question is: does it mean the cat will definitely carry toxoplasmosis if the meat is uncooked? And would that change anything about how careful we'd have to be with hygiene etc before eating/cooking/when cleaning the litter tray etc?

Yeah my two eat Bozita which I get delivered from Zooplus. I mix it with dry food as that is best for their teeth.

My carts have Nutriment I buy in bulk I feed them in in the evening with kibble but in morning they have kibble with wet cat food pouches

RandomMess · 31/10/2022 18:53

We use raw feed kibble

www.orijenpetfoods.co.uk/product/orijen-original-cat/

Hardly need any, very little poo and very little smell!

Bestcatmum · 31/10/2022 18:56

Wow I didn't know you could get raw food kibble. My cats won't touch the raw wet food but will happily eat a rat.

RandomMess · 31/10/2022 19:11

@Bestcatmum they are contrary buggars aren't they?

We don't really have freezer room for that kind of raw.

Pr0fessionalLurker · 31/10/2022 20:22

OP we only feed the complete wet food, no dry. This is due to the dietary requirements of the cat but you could reduce the cost by mix feeding probably.

Flockameanie · 31/10/2022 20:39

We just feed raw and nothing else. That’s what the breeder recommended and cat is thriving.

dontknowwhatisbest · 02/11/2022 18:22

DCat has Katkin - it's lightly steamed rather than raw, but 100% meat. He seems well on it and his poo literally does not smell. At all. It's amazing!

Willowcat77 · 02/11/2022 23:28

Thanks everyone! I'm going to research all of the brands you have mentioned. Today my old cat brought in a mouse, meowed loudly and gave it to my two kittens who played with it for an hour before eating it all up! Raw is obviously the way to go. I started thinking, why don't cat food manufacturers offer Mouse flavour? It would be the most natural cat diet in the world!

Not according to vets or nutritionists it isn’t.

MITs less likely to be balanced and more likely to expose your cat to harmful infectious pathogens.

maybe it’s ‘healthier’ if you listen to online evangelists and marketeers.

Yes. Raw feeding in cats has been linked with TB, salmonella and various other infections

RandomMess · 03/11/2022 09:44

Raw feeding supermarket human meat does put them at risk of disease.

You can either cook the meat though.

I guess "raw feeding" is a more generic term to cover not feeding them grain and veg.

Feeding meat alone would be incredibly unbalanced
