Leaving cats for 24 hours?

Will they be ok on their own with plenty dry food down, their water fountain, clean litter trays and lots of cosy snuggly spots in the house??

Myself and dp have to be away overnight for work tonight, will be gone 24 hours roughly. This will be the first time weve left the cats overnight. We could potentially ask someone to come round in the morning to put down more food, but hes not a cat person at all, so wouldnt stay and give them attention for a while, which is the main thing i think they'll need.

Also, should we leave the catflap open or closed? We usually lock it at night and keep them in so im wary about their first night being allowed outside being a night where we arent here. But then in the morning they will be very pissed off that they cant get outside...!

Whats the best way to deal with an overnight stay away??

We have been cat-sitting our son’s 2 cats for a few months. We have had weekends away, they have dry food on a timer, lots of water dotted about. They have been fine. They are indoor cats so used to entertaining themselves about the place.

We leave our cat overnight quite often. Just put down extra bowls of dry food to keep him going. He has 24/7 cat flap access, so no change for him. He is always fine. The joy of cats is their independence. He usually emerges from the front hedge when we arrive back, and yells at us loudly, where the hell have we been!

We only have one cat and we've left him on his own overnight. He was fine.
From what you describe, you are doing everything you can to make it comfortable for them, so I wouldn't worry about it.
We used to have a cat flap which was supposed to work with the collar, but it never did. I would come down in the morning to find the neighbourhood cats in the kitchen!
I think they will be fine. 😸

Let me tell you something about cats. They give no shits as long as they can do what they want and have food.

I would get someone to check on them
It might just be mine but he's got his claw stuck in a radiator before and fell upside down and needed rescuing
Same with a window latch. Oh and knocked his bed over and then howled as he "had nowhere to sleep" ConfusedHmm

I'd happily leave mine 24h but they're all used to being left so it wouldn't be a problem for them.

Thank you for the replies, luckily the weather is rubbish here so they arent interested in going outside, ive locked the cat flap, cleaned the litter trays, and will put lots of dry food down before we go.

Greedy boy cat might try and eat the whole lot straight away, but if he does, he'll just have to wait till we get back...! Luckily grazer cat has a microchip feeder so at least her food is safe from him...!

No this isn't true! Our cat is furious with us when we go away. When neighbours go in to feed him he ambushed them and demands snuggles as well as food!

(Of course you're fine to leave them 24hrs, OP. if yours is anything like ours, you may just get a Velcro cat for a few days after you return Smile)
