We have sisters who hate each other! TBH I think I would go for a young adult bonded pair in future to avoid the same happening. Last pair were a mother and son and much more harmonious. Of course both neutered before we rescued them so no worries there.

If they are related/from same litter it doesn't matter. If they are neutered it doesn't matter. Would suggest both. Use Cats Protection, please don't buy

We had 2 db's.. Besties until one died.
The owners with 2 females I know report they generally hate each other..

We had 4 cats- 3 kittens and mammy and the mammy and 1 got on, and another one and that one got on, and then two are mean to one so I think it’s pot luck. Best of luck and sorry about your cat

LadyApplejack · 24/09/2022 19:55

We had brother and sister litter mates. Happy playmates and got on well as adults, but did their own thing too. Got them spayed and neutered at about 4/5 months old.

Chipsriceandgravy · 24/09/2022 19:56

Two is the absolute best!!! So amazing watching them play and cuddle up. We have two girls however they are from different litters.

RandomMess · 24/09/2022 19:56

Pair of boys.

We have a young Dad (now neutered) and a son, adore each other!

Teabag37 · 24/09/2022 22:20

Thank you all ! My Kitty was 19 when she died & we bloody loved her & really miss having a cat in the house........would never consider buying & would only take in strays, thank you all for your input x

We have boy and girl siblings. Generally get on well but the occasional growl/hiss when the play fighting gets a bit OTT. They don't often cuddle up but will give each other a good clean every few days. Both neutered. They definitely have their own 'spaces' and some sort of thing at meal times, girl cat will wander off after 5 or so minutes and go back after boycat has finished. But get on fine.

Mabelstearooms · 24/09/2022 23:24

We have two girls from different litters. One 18 months older. Little one is definitely the 'annoying little sister' and the boss, but they do play together a lot. Strictly no cuddling of big sister is tolerated though no matter how hard the little one tries. Big sister would have been perfectly happy without a little sister.
I would probably aim for litter mates if I ever got another pair.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 24/09/2022 23:31

If you want two I would seriously go for an older bonded pair rather than kittens. Kittens might play together beautifully but it's not worth (potentially) the following 15 years of hostilities and outright war.

12 - 18 months is a good age imo.

Longdistance · 24/09/2022 23:36

I’d go see the litter and see which two get on best.

Chrissywakeuup · 24/09/2022 23:37

I have 6yo and 4yo females. They muddle along okay, get on but not overly close and i dont think they would particularly miss eachother. One tends to hang out upstairs as shes a bit more aloof and youngest dc is a bit noisy for her, older one is a lap cat and glued to me. Few spats that have lasted a few days and solved with catnip eventually. They dont clash which weve had before.
