Hi, Back in May I rescued a gorgeous cat from a local cat rescue and he's honestly amazing. He's fit in perfectly with all my existing animals and hasn't put a paw wrong.

A few weeks after we got him I thought I could feel a lump in his primordial pouch but it was only if he sat in a certain position. 2 weeks ago I noticed it had got much bigger so off to the vet he went with much screaming and 💩 in his carrier.
She said it felt like a large fatty lump and as its not bothering him atall we should wait and see. She then said its pretty rare for a cat of his age (between 18 months and 2 years old) to have a fatty lump/lipoma.

Just gave him a flea bath as his spot on didn't work (only one of the pets with fleas that just won't go - house and all pets are treated regularly) and noticed the lump feels even bigger, between a golf ball and tennis ball size but oval shaped rather than round. Rang the vets straight away and he's booked in to see them again tomorrow morning.

At the last visit she said if it got bigger and I was worried they would sedate him and test the fluid and if it's anything bad they will remove it. The lump isn't bothering him atall, he still runs and jumps, toilets normally etc.. and the positioning of the lump means a operation to remove it may be very uncomfortable for him.

Has anyone had something similar? It's between his back legs in the big pouchy bit, squishy and moveable which were apparently good signs.

I can't stop worrying about him :( and really hope his £4000 insurance cover is enough (I know - I should have got more cover)

Could it be a hernia?
He sounds lovely! I hope the vet can offer reassurance, hopefully it's nothing as he's a young cat x

You have insurance and he is a young cat. He will be fine once it's removed.

dinosaursgorawrrr · 22/09/2022 18:26

Apparently not a hernia, she said it would push back in if it was. It was my first thought too as you cant feel it atall if he's in certain positions. He's so young and so well behaved, he just let us bath him without his claws out. My other cat wouldn't even enter the bathroom without teeth and claws 😂. Theyve boomed him back in quickly so hopefully it can be removed. His anxiety in the car makes transporting him so difficult but I know it's for the best :(

Thought I'd update -

I saw a different vet last week and she said she thinks it may be a hernia as it felt like it shrunk in to him when she pressed it. This is after the last vet said it definitely doesn't feel like a hernia so I don't know what to think. There's still a chance it's something bad but it could just as easily be a fatty lump.

He's got Xrays on Monday and has his operation booked for the same time if he needs it as it saves on having 2 anaesthetics.
He's still fine in himself so I'm a bit worried about him having surgery for something that's not worrying him when it could then create problems. Apparently if its a hernia they will need to repair it as it would be a inguinal hernia that could get caught and make him ill or kill him.
Also.. no idea how to keep him still 😂

Oh thanks for updating. I really hope hes ok. He looks so much like my cat, more white than black. Fingers crossed it will be something simple. Keep us updated 💐💐
