Older cat just getting more "mellow"?

Not sure how else to describe this but our remaining beautiful boy (15 years) is now just very chill.

He will go out, eat, use litter tray (and poop outside) but just feel like he is totally winding down.

No longer interested in "cat visitors" in garden, will sleep a heck of a lot, likes being close to humans (me) and is very nonchalant.

He hears a commotion (next door dog, cat, kids for example) but he just stirs and (in human terms) shrugs.

He eats well, litters well and snuggles lots - but wonder if this is the "beginning of the end" for want of a better term?

Hi op, no answers but interested in the same question as my oldie behaves in the same way ! Used to be so feisty! Though they say not to worry if he eats and moves well.

My family cat used to be so aloof right up until he hit 15 ish, he then became really snuggly and affectionate and was really needy. He lived until 21 so there can be still plenty of time left. Tom's tend to mellow out as they get older or so I hear.

Thanks both!

So glad to hear I'm not alone in noticing this.

He is very mellow but just seems quite content so I felt silly raising it.

He definitely was a ... "what are you doing in my back garden?" type but now is a bit "knock yourself out" sort of guy!

Yes, like humans elderly cats can grow tired emotionally and physically plus they have years of experience and know what is happening without having to investigate and perhaps protect their home range. Fifteen is a good age. Up to 20 is a very good age indeed.
