Blood in kitten stool, does anyone have any experience of this?

3 (nearly 4) month old kittens.

One of them had blood in his stool so I took him to the vet last week who prescribed pan cure for both of them and a sample pot to send off if that doesn't work.

It hasn't worked and now the other kitten has just been and she also has blood in her stool.

It's dark red with mucous.

They are both otherwise happy, content, playing, eating and drinking.

They have about 1-2 pouches each of wet food per day and dry food - both by Whiskers.

I wonder if the food could be the issue.

Ive collected samples of the first kitten as suggested so I will send that to the vet when they open tomorrow.

But in the mean time I wondered whether anyone had any experience or knowledge with this?

We have no other pets and they of course have not been outside yet and I don't give them treats.

I've just remembered I caught her eating a small piece of toast yesterday (dairy free spread) and wonder if perhaps that's the cause for her?

Can the kitten dry food cause the issue?

I haven't allowed them any milk, but we are a dairy free household anyway.

Well panacur is a worker so the vet obviously suspects worms - they should be worked regularly anyway.
Was it a one off dose or over a few days?

It didn't feel like they suspected worms as much as they said let's do it anyway because they need to be done and then work from there.
It was given over 3 days.

My 10 year old cat had this recently. The vet prescribed antibiotics and it cleared up. My cat had also stopped grooming herself and lost weight. She had dark red blood in poo which was sort of firm then loose on top. If that makes sense.

My older cat dog this when o changed her food. The vet gave her some kaolin paste. And it cleared up when I changed her food back. Strange as the only difference was that it was the senior good rather than the low fat or indoor cat variety of the same brand.

This happened to my 9 week old kitten a few months ago and the vet suspected it was the food. They had been eating the same food once weaned but something just upset him. We were given the royal canine gastrointestinal kitten food which is like a mousse and he had that for about a week and was fine. It was £6 a tin from the vet though! A week later happened to his brother, same age so he had the mousse and again he was fine. Also we were advised to avoid any cat treats as they can be too rich for little tummies

Constipation?

One of my cats has had issues with her bowels since she was tiny. If we don't feed her the right food, she's straight there with the blood, mucus and poo like a rock.

Definitely no constipation, a good and soft consistency.

Im strongly suspecting the food.

Im looking into getting some stuff for sensitive tummies to see if that helps.
