Not sure how many houses my kitten visits

Pretty sure he tours the neighbourhood. He is often next door. I then was told the people in the house next to them were terrified when he went in their house scared of cats apparently.
How to I stop him making these house calls? He's also starting to get chubby but he's my first cat so I don't know if they naturally fill out.
He's 8 months old and a very outdoorsy cat

You have three options:

Keep him indoors
Cat-proof your garden
Build a catio

Otherwise, you have no way to control what happens to your cat when they roam.

Pics of said kitty please, it's the rules

Put a note through all the neighbours doors asking them not to feed him or give treats.. as he had a living home. Despite him trying to convince otherwise.

Ooooh dear, my ten year old ginger Tom was a Six Dinner Sid in his younger salad days. He used to really get quite chunky and he’d leave for days and move in with other neighbours. We used to call one neighbour’s place his own Mar-a-Lago. He had 3 other names apparently! Eventually people stopped feeding him and also, when we got a second cat, he just stuck around the house more. They became such good mates after a bumpy start.
You’ll have to ask neighbours not to feed your boy. Do you have some sort of neighbourhood WhatsApp group? The wandering is beyond your control unless you keep him in. But if he’s not fed by others, he’ll begin to stick around home a bit more.

Put a collar on him PLEASE DO NOT FEED, Amazon and Ebay sell them, l have had to resort to this as my neighbours treat my cats as their own, they actively encourage them in, its so bloody annoying, esp if l need to give them medicine or take to vets. It confuses the cat if others let them in and feed them, also you then get complaints from others who don' t want them in when the cat tries his luck.

Not much you can do I'm afraid unless you keep them in - I'm "lucky" in that every other house seems to have a cat so mine don't wander far as they each have their own territory - it can be like bloody gang war fare though if one upsets the others and dares cross the road. I found they wandered most when they were young though probably whilst learning the hierarchy - after a couple of years realised they don't go very far - Except to the pub at the end of the road - I usually have to retrieve them from there on BBQ days 😂 that's why mine are fat

My local area is like a meeting point. My kitten has made friends with another kitten and a black and white cat. They tend to wander around together - which I find unusual.

I'm not convinced I'd be able to get a collar on him. I suppose I'll just have to be happy that he's a confident little thing? His kitten friend seems so timid.

hopefully he's neutered, intact cats tend to wander further (and cause more trouble).
It's always a tough decision as a cat owner, if you let them out you run the risk of people feeding him amongst the usual traffic/kids with bb guns/getting stuck somewhere but they get their freedom and natural hunting skills honed.
The only way to truly stop it is to keep him within your property I'm afraid as collars fall off and of course some people ignore them.

Whoareyoumyfriend · 19/09/2022 10:11

Yep. He's neutered, chipped, flead, wormed, vaccinated.

He's definitely happier as an outdoor cat. He hated being stuck inside as a tiny one

Sadly that’s how I’ve lost quite a few cats. Neighbours fed them, after that they didn’t come home. I even put a tag on one that said ‘diabetic please don’t feed me’ they still did. I keep them all as house cats now, I can’t trust people not to steal them.

mondaytosunday · 19/09/2022 22:38

You must put a collar on him! People don't have scanners - you put a tag on with cats name and your number and state whether the cat is neutered and microchipped. Then people know the cat is owned and not a stray.

Oh goodness. Is collars actually a thing? No cats seem to have collars around here.

Mine don't wear collars because I'm worried about them catching on something and strangling them.

schnubbins · 20/09/2022 14:01

Our neighbours have put a GPS tracker collar on their cat .He is a real wanderer and not afraid of anything or anyone .He has come into our house all summer when we had our patio doors open and eaten all our cats food on numerous occasions. At least you will fins out the houses he frequents and then maybe talk to them about not feeding him.

No I don't put a collar on my cat, he's had bad fights even with the ones where they're meant to spring apart.

I'd go and tell your neighbours he belongs to you and he's well fed and warn them not to be taken in by him asking for food.
