Advice please for unwell kitten

Hello, I have a just under 6 month old kitten ( male, castrated ) and today he just seems "off"
He didn't eat breakfast, which is unheard of, and doesn't seem to have drunk water either. Didn't eat offered cat treats and seems restless, as if he can't get comfortable.

The only other thing of note is he has been scampering around in a field with cows, sheep and horses which is at the back of our house.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions as to what to watch out for, and/or when to see a vet?

Is it possible he caught & ate a mouse?
Mine is sometimes a little off & subdued and it's usually because he's eaten some poor critter that doesn't entirely agree with him.

Thanks...I guess it's possible..I've only seen him catch spiders so far, but yes, possible and sometimes there are frogs/toads around so...yes, maybe.

Has he been to the loo recently?

sparkysalmon · 06/09/2022 11:19

Actually, I'm not too sure, the litter tray seems dry, no poop, and I didn't see him go when he was briefly outside...so, I think I'd say not today, no idea for yesterday as he was ok then, and outside for quite a while

mine gets like this with a tummy ache. Keep an eye on him as mine spent a couple of days at the vet with dehydration & a very poorly tummy after eating something iffy outside

My female cat catches and eats snails <urgh> her pooh is vile after
Female cat really needs to up her game re catching skills

Frogs have a skin toxin (It was on one of those TV Vet programmes)

I would keep a very close eye on him as he's so young. Personally I'd have him at the vet to check him over. He could quickly get dehydrated if he's not drinking.

Check for ticks. Very closely and use a proper tool if you find any!

Urinary blockage is common in male cats, especially neutered ones - if he continues not to pee, he needs to see the vet asap

That would be my concern too, hence my earlier question.
I'd take him to the vet (even though he'll probably perk up when he's there and be fine!)

We have a wood pellets litter tray, and I can see there's been 1 disturbed area, so one wee in the past 16 hours I think

I just tried him on a different brand and that got his attention, so that's a good sign I hope

My concern would also be a blockage. Keep an eye out for inappropriate toileting and frequent trips to the litter box, plus lots of small wees too. I've had two male neutered cate suffer from blockages and they can go downhill really fast.

If you see him trying to wee and nothing of very little comes out, it's an emergency and he needs to see a vet.

This is all really helpful advice, thanks so much everyone
