Cat missing

Hi everyone

Am so worried my little cat hasn’t come home. It is very very unlike him, he’s never not come back for his tea in 4 years. Have already been out rattling dreamies and no sign. He doesn’t go out the front ( well not to my knowledge) and is largely just in the back gardens ( terraced street). There was a huge party at one of the nearby houses - my only hope is he was spooked and is still hiding out. He’s exactly the type of cat who would go in someone’s house though - extremely friendly.

Does anyone have any tips on what has worked for them? If he doesn’t turn up are things like animal rescue worth trying? I will send a message to the street WhatsApp - it’s a nice street so people will look. I guess make posters?

My kids are hysterical - eldest has SEN and the cat is pretty much his only friend.

Oh I'm sorry about your kitty.

Ours occasionally just stay out for ages, missing meals, with no explanation and then just rock up, oblivious to the worry and angst they have caused

WhatsApp sounds like a good idea, and walking round calling out can be too.

One of mine got stuck in a very high tree once and was there for 2 days before I found him. Nutter.

There's not really a lot you can do though.

Little fluffy bastards. We love them so much.

Good luck x

Thanks - I’m pretty sure he’s stuck somewhere. Am thinking of making a leaflet and putting through next street’s doors asking them if they would mind checking.

i did think I heard him very faintly but could be imagining that!

Keep looking. Posters/WhatsApp, throw everything at it.
Put out their litter tray (if it's been used) as the scent can help them find home again. Cats can sometimes get a little disoriented. Smelly food also - warm up something like pilchards in the microwave.
It's really not that unusual for even a very reliable cat to go AWOL for a day or two, but it's worth checking with neighbours to make sure they're not shut in somewhere.

Thanks Beamur

I have the litter trays outside. My fear is he is trapped - I’m currently posting leaflets through letterboxes and will then do posters.

Well during putting leaflets through doors I’ve discovered he goes into quite a glades people’s homes in the surrounding streets. But isn’t in any who have checked atm.

Not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Really do feel he’s trapped somewhere

My cat did this during the heatwave, she was away two days and then turned up perfectly fine. She is also a friendly cat and I suspect she found somewhere cooler than my house and camped out for a few days. She is a good hunter so wouldn’t have starved.
Do you have a local lost and found pets group on Facebook or Nextdoor? They can be quite useful for posting pictures of unfamiliar pets in their area or if someone finds a cat in their shed/garage.

Ridingladybugs · 04/09/2022 14:31

Thanks - yes have posted on the next door app and both my street and the next street are aware.

It is just so very unlike him not to come home.

Mine has been staying out longer and longer since I went on holiday recently, doesn't help that a woman up the street lets her in the house and feeds her, despite me asking her not to!
