Getting rid of litter tray

justabigdisco · 01/09/2022 20:15

I had 2 cats (litter mates), one was very much the outdoor cat and one stayed inside.
My outdoor cat died in December and over the summer my other cat has very much discovered her love of the outdoors!
She hasn’t used the litter tray in weeks. I’m thinking of taking the opportunity to get rid of the bloody thing but obvs she may be less keen to do her business outside come winter. Would I be mad to get rid?

Our cat used the tray for the first time since 2020 last week because we were away overnight (MIL was feeding her) but we keep two out just in case. Even in deep snow she prefers to toilet outside though.

I would keep it. Cats are contrary buggers and it's guaranteed that the moment it goes, the cat will pee on the floor 😉

Leave it near where she does her business. Eventually empty it and keep for emergencies like fireworks and stuff

Not exactly sure where she’s going to be honest. Just enjoying not having to empty the tray!

Mine never uses it. And I never had one. Then he got older and the days got colder so I popped on out for him. He uses this instead of going outside on the cold. I would clean it and keep it out. Just incase.

Yes I suppose it’s the emptying/cleaning/refilling part that bothers me, rather than the actual having one sat there. So I guess no harm to hang on to it.
