Clipping cats claws - feasible and if so how?

Our cat loves to make biscuits and sit on laps but his claws are always out so can be a super uncomfortable experience. He can get clipped at the vet on his pet plan but not keen on putting him through the trauma of cat carrier and car if I don’t have to. Does anyone successfully do this at home and if so are there any clipper recommendations or other tips?

YouTube for 'how to' videos. This is my favourite to watch, but let me assure you, I don't have a cat so no puddykins here will be enduring this method.

If your cat goes out don't do this, it's very unfair. They need sharp claws for climbing and fighting.

Mine goes out but doesn't climb or fight - he patrols the garden, drinks out the neighbours water feature and that's him done
The vet does it as he can't chew his own back claws due to having only one tooth

I do my older cats as their claws have caught in their pads before. I don't do the younger ones.

But it's a 3 person job here - one holds the body, the other holds the paw and the 3rd one wields the clippers. I bought mine from the vets.

I used to do my old cat's claws when he was no longer able to do them for himself and they didn't shed naturally.
He used to it quite happily in my lap as long as I did a few belly rubs / strokes on the head in between.
He had some white claws and some black (black cat, but gradually getting whiter as he aged, especially in his undercoat of fur).
White claws are easy as you can see the blood vessel feeding the claw. Black ones you need to be more cautious with.
