Insurance for cats - more £ for males ?

DH is renewing our cats' insurance , they are bro/sis so same age , same breed.
Both neutered and chipped , vaccinated annually .

But the quote for our boy was higher .
Any reason why ?
Is it the wander risk or fight risk?
Or bladder / UTI higher risk ?

DH has shopped about and got a lower (but equivilant cover ) quote .

I don't know why- my assumption is fighting. But I have three indoor sibling neutered cats, and my boy is £2 more. I assume that he's more likely to get in a scrap? That's why?

I would assume fight risk but did either of you question the insurers on this? I'm curious now

They have a larger territory so more chance of coming across danger while out and about. Also more likely to fight.

I will ask DH to email them , I can understand the price going up as they get older , but our male cat has always been a male cat so he hasn't sprung a surprise on them !

I think with all insurance they tend to take the piss if you don't shop about .
I know with my car insurance they can make make unreasonable hikes .

(I once had a 50% hike on a Vauxhall Corsa . No changes , I was a year older , car was a year older . When I queried I was told "Oh these Hot Hatches get stolen" .

Hot Hatch It was barely tepid Shock . I went elsewhere

Do males have a tendency to go AWOL then ? Actually maybe that's all male species .🙄

Goodluckanddontfuckitup · 25/08/2022 23:36

Even after male cats have been 'done' they don't lose that tendency to wander looking for a mate in the same way that female cats do. They're at more risk of being hit by cars, so if they survive you do have a claim it's likely to be a big one.

Allergictoironing · 26/08/2022 07:42

When I insured mine I queried this, was told it was because males are more likely to fight.

What you never get (I tried hard enough) is a lower bill for the cats being indoor only, where they have no chance of getting into fights or being lost

Ah that does make sense , he covers a 'patch' that is his garden+ NDN garden (empty house so not treading on anyones toes ) and the next one along if their DC arent there .
On the other side , too noisy for him so he doesn't venture there .

I did wonder if the male bladder issues were a factor but I guess that;s something that increases with age too (as his premiums will increase)
