Cat acting strange, not eating much

Our rescue has been acting so strange recently. He's been drinking more and sqat peeing more but in weird places such as the outdoor plant pot, middle of the lawn, in one of the bedrooms etc. Not everyday, but yesterday he did it a lot. Today he's been fine. He's also not eating much, not even his dreamies. His still munching on his dry food. The imy thing I can think of is a big cat came and sat in our garden at the weekend, so maybe that's stressed him. He is eating his webbox sticks but not much of his wet food.

I've rung the vet and they think it's she's. I've ordered zyklene and some cystease tablets in case it's a uti. These arrive tomorrow. I've also ordered a feliway plug.

I've been reading online and upset myself because his symptoms seem to suggest diabetes. I can't sleep for worry.

He's fully insured but with things so tight at the moment even paying the excess will be hard for us. I was relieved when the vet said it was probably stress, but now I'm sat up worrying its something more serious and he needs a full check up. I'll ring the vet again in the morning but wondered if anyone else had a cat act strange simply due to stress.

Short answer - yes. You need to start chasing other cats away especially if they are full toms. Your cat is trying to tell others to stay away from his home and his food. Try blocking any downstairs windows that he can see out of at night too. We had to shut our dining room door every night as all the neighbourhood cats used to come and peer through the patio doors which stressed our cat out a lot. They never visited during the day when our cat was in the garden.

Thank you. I hope it is icky she's and not some physical illness. I'm going to keep a closer eye on the garden. We've all been sitting him with whilst he's in the garden so he doesn't feel alone and he seems to like that.

I'm really hoping the zyklene works. Most of all I hope he starts eating properly again. The vet said that as he's eating his dry food and webbox treats it doesn't sound like he's poorly but to keep an eye on him.

If that was my cat I'd be taking him straight to the vets this morning.

Please don't let the vet fob you off with "stress". Ours tried to do that and after repeat visits eventually agreed to do a urine test - he had crystals in his bladder and needed medication and a specific change in diet to fix the problem.

Cystease is fine as a prevention, but if he's weeing little and often then he probably needs antibiotics and painkillers at an absolute minimum, and if it continues then likely urine tests to make sure he doesn't have crystals, which can cause fatal blockages if not removed or dissolved.

Please get your cat seen ASAP.

I'll be calling my vet as soon as they open this morning and asking for a second opinion. I'm hoping they'll agree to anti biotics and painkillers. Don't now how I can get a sample from him as he wees and poos outdoors (normally!).

The vet can do it for you if you can't do it yourself. We were given a special bag of non-absorbent litter and a syringe but mine decided to wee in the bath so we managed to syringe it out of there 🙈

He's got an appointment for Saturday morning. However, this morning he's eaten all his wet food and sat near me purring and giving me slow blinks! All this after I've barely slept a wink. Seems absolutely fine. Going to keep an eye on him until Saturday.

Does anyone know if full petplan cover includes the cost of the actual appointment? I'd still like to get him checked out on Saturday but if he's fine and it's going to cost I might consider cancelling. The vet is still adamant that he's stressed and doesn't need to be seen, but said they'll check him out on sat.

They will cover the costs except for the excess. Which is probably more than the cost of the appointment.
