How long to keep our boys inside?

Hi
how long do you keep a cat I side for when you move? We’ve done a big international move so there’s no danger of them going to the old house by accident. We’ve had them inside a week but they are usually outside cats and they are being driven bonkers having to stay inside (and us having to keep windows etc shut tightly). They don’t usually travel far from home and I’m tempted to let them out this evening for a bit…..

what have others done?

An absolute minimum of four weeks, preferred six

Let them out hungry and rattle their food after an hour or so - they should come right back. Do that for a couple of days, so they get to know the local area but don't stray too far and associate coming home with food.

4 weeks is sensible.

There is literally no way we can keep them inside 4 or 6 weeks, they are escape artists!!

We moved 2 weeks ago.
We were all set to keep DC in for 4 weeks.
She had other ideas, and a week in went out through tiny top window at 3am. DS2 came to wake me when he heard her crying. We went outside with her for an hour or so for the next couple of days - so DC, DS and me in the garden, with dreamies. She now has the door open for a couple of hours each day if we are in the house, but we are always aware that she is out, and she wasn't a big wanderer at the old house. She's not allowed out if we are going out. Free access through a catflap will wait until we've been in at least a month.
It's probably a big risk with wanderers tho.

Minimum of 2-3 weeks but 4-6 more ideal. When you do let them out, do it when they're hungry (before a main meal), try and supervise the first visit and call them back to you regularly with a treat reward.

Of course you can, you're just going to need to be very vigilant with them.
